If I have the option, I’ll equip my 1958 with the mud flaps we saw on the First Edition. I’d prefer to not have running boards, but if kids or wife don’t like climbing in I’ll have to get some.

Edit: I’ll also probably remove the front air dams.
I'm on some lists for the 1958 and those running boards will be the first thing to go (assuming they will be standard issue). That hitch cover also looks much bigger than I remember it from the initial pictures from August. Hopefully there'll be a solution to toning that down.

One detail I had not noticed until someone pointed it out, is the flat top section on the corner of the bumper where it meets the fender. Any thoughts on if there's a purpose to this flat horizontal section, or just styling? The guy who pointed it out mentioned it would be a great spot to park a beer, for whatever it's worth.

It looks like there is a fog light and some kind of vent within that piece, but can't tell from pictures if the shape is just a style choice or if there is some packaging or aero/wind noise component. It also looks like it may be a separate piece so maybe it acts as an easily replaced stand-off to protect the bumper and fenders from off-road contact?

It also looks like the perfect place to stick some wide-angle light pods.

The vent sends air into the wheel well area. I’m going to assume it’s all in the name of aerodynamics. Cleaning the air as it passes by the tire at speed. Purely styling IMHO makes no sense on an offroad vehicle, but that of course is subjective for each individual.

It's funny all of the explanations car makers come up with for these styling cues. The silly "cool the brakes" vents that Mustangs and Corvettes used to have. Nope. They were purely decorative. The best is these taped on snorkels you see around. I mean come on.

I did't pull my statement from anything I've read nor do I have a degree in engineering. Just based on observation of how modern automobiles have been addressing the dirty air around the wheels at HWY speeds. Nearly all the EV's out there have very smooth hubcaps and I've read where removing them will drop the MPG a couple ticks. I've read of other dimple treatments on flares to also address the issue. (I think it was Subaru from memory) So my comment is just based on observation. Forcing air into or out of a wheel well may have an air pressure effect that could in turn contribute to improved MPG however slight it may be.

The "air curtain" over the front tires is a real thing that basically every new car has. It helps with aero efficiency and wind noise.

Stopped by the DC auto show. They weren't letting anyone in the LC250 unfortunately, but got to get hands on with the GX550. It is very nice. Enough so that it's got me contemplating switching from the LC I'm on the waitlist for to the GX.

Could you tell if the GX a pre-production truck?

That exposed receiver is really unattractive. I’m happy it’s not under the bumper like the Tacoma but they could have just made it look nice and skipped the cover. I also wish they would have moved the trailer connections up and receiver adjacent.
