LANDTANK fan clutch for S/C 1FZ

Update; swapped out the water pump (stud hole pulled the threads) orange Landtank clutch, and 1fz fan this weekend. Everything fits, nothing hits. After comparing the two fans, the one that was on my truck with the blue hub/ spacer has one less blade and the blades are a little shorter. Everything is back together and happily spaced away from each other. Thanks again @cruiserdan and @Mjones for your guidance and insight.

Sorry for reviving an old thread.
But I am about to have a TRD SC installed in my '97 LX450. The kit that I bought did not come with the TRD supplied fan, my question is will this fan with part# 16361-65020 work with my current blue fan clutch? Also this TRD part number #PTR26-60970 is available as a supercharger fan blade ext. I'm wondering what this part is for?

Thanks in advance!

General consensus is that the ringed fan supplied with the supercharger kit is rubbish and detrimental to cooling. I, and most (all?) others, have either stuck with the original fan or changed to the 3fe fan.

Glad to see a few Superchargers given a second life, I keep missing out when one pops up on the F/S listings  For a second one!

There are several threads and comments on S/C’s when they were be added more frequently by longtime reputable members/ builders, CDan, Land Tank and others. I recall plenty of good reading on the install, performance, and improvements made regarding cooling, fan type and clutch etc. The wiring harness routing is another attention area that is worth researching.

If I get lucky enough to score another one, I will need to go back a refresh, so I can remember what all I did 10-15 years ago!

@Pierce thanks for the reply!

questions is what TRD #PTR26-60970 is for? Do i need this to run the 3fe or the v6 fan? Or just straight use the fan clutch?

I believe that PTR26-60970 is the aluminum spacer that goes in between the fan clutch and water pump. I oddly still have mine out...

If you have the @landtank modified orange hub supercharger fan clutch (mouthful but available from Absolute Wits End) then you won’t need the spacer as it is machined to fit the water pump. If you don’t have that modified fan clutch then you will need the spacer. My advice (and I’m a dummy) is to skip the $100ish dollar spacer and get a new modified supercharger fan clutch from Wits End. Cost benefit analysis says that you’ll likely end up upgrading your stock fan clutch anyway when you realize that your stock cooling system can’t keep up with the extra heat that the supercharger produces. That $100 spacer could go towards an excellent fan clutch that you’re going to end up buying anyway.

Unfortunately, the orange fan clutch is no longer available at the moment from wits end. Should i use the spacer, which i have, can i use the 1FZ fan or still need the 3FE fan?

Does the LandTank orange fan clutch that is modified For the SuperCharger offer any better cooling than the modified Blue fan clutch with spacer or do they cool the same and the orange just eliminates the Need for a spacer?

I don’t know the blue vs orange differences. But when comparing standard orange vs land tank orange my understanding is that @landtank adds higher viscosity fluid for improved performance and also machines out the back of the fan clutch so that the spacer is no longer needed. Going off of memory though.

It's more involved than that. The 1HZ clutch base needs to be machined to properly fit the 1FZ water pump hub. This clutch replaces the 1FZ clutch AND spacer.

In the absence of the orange hub, can the trd spacer be used with the 1FZ fan? Or the 3FE fan is the only way with the trd spacer and blue fan clutch?

That puts the fan too close to the radiator, in my opinion.

Just get landtanks orange fan clutch it’s dope, eliminates all the drama of other crap and spacers and other fans... it’s simple and effective, worth the mulaa, would buy again 👍

What fan is that? I bought the orange fan clutch but thinking about putting a new fan in as well on my 80 (Slee’s ex). Got a part # ?
