I came across a 62 which went through a shop called "Land Cruiser Restorations" in Wichita Kansas.

With such a generic company name, it's kinda difficult to search for information on them.

Anybody know them or their work?

Many thanks!

as long as the guys name isn't Mushro...

Land cruiser Restoration

This guy seems happy after working with them. Search their name and a few relevant threads pop up.

i spoke to them about sending in my 60 to get the body rust issues sorted. Price was decent, considering what others charge. Give them a call.

I am currently working with them on a purchase & gotta say that the owner Jim is super responsive & honest regarding his inventory. I have ZERO complaints & highly recommend Toyota Land Cruiser Restorations for any support big or small.

I am currently considering buying one of Jims 1989 62s.

Jim seems really responsive and friendly thus far. However I am a first time buyer for a FJ62 and know next to nothing.

1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 For Sale

Hes charging 14k for this one. Is that reasonable?

Hes also mentioned to me that the 62s are the "desirable years"

FJ62's seem to fetch higher prices but I'm not really sure why. the only real benefit they have is fuel injection and a little heavier duty springs. If you are going to run 33" tires on one the axle ratios are a little better too. The 3FE is a little more of a highway engine vs a trail engine but by no means is it a light revving efficiency king.

It's the FJ62 package - fuel injection, auto tranny, electric windows, locks, mirrors - but still has that rugged FJ60 (the superior 60 series) appearance.

Seems alright but priced a bit high. Out west that is a $7-12k truck.

Rust is the enemy. Looks good but it can hide, one spot you can find rust before it blows up in other areas on the body is the rear seat mount on the floor. Look at the captive nut in the wheel well, it is coated with factory seam sealer but if that is blown up around the nut, very good chance of rust and rot there.

The frame looks good but I only see one picture. Besides the rear that likes to delaminate, 60-series like to rot right above the rear leaf spring hanger, usually inner frame rail. So look it over real good before spending $14k.

Mechanicals, most can be fixed. Ask for a compression test and leak down test. That could save you costly repairs.

Cheers

62s also have stronger front axles and twice the eyes.

from what I’ve read this is not the case. The truss on the axle is thin metal and a only spans a short distance doing little to stiffen the axle. The rest of the axe is the same as the 60 other than the 4.10 gear ratio.

The truss while thin is better than no truss. But yes i agree it's weak if you're going to crawl it.
