KDSS Relocation Question. (2 Viewers)

I just went to 34" tires so I have rubbing on the KDSS arm. I need to do the KDSS relocation, so is the sway bar lowered and moved forward a little bit with the relocation kit? The am asking because I am wondering if I will need to make some modifications to my budbuilt front skid? Also does the KDSS arm move some. I am wanting to figure out what I might need to cut before I do it. I have attached pictures of the two spots I have questions about.

Yes it pulls the kdss arm about an inch forward so make sure you have clearance to your bullbar. It’ll pull those swaybar mounts forward too and might require grinding the skid plate. I don’t have budbuilt so I can’t confirm tho.

The kdss relo will put your sway bar end links at a pretty strong angle which will wear the bushings pretty fast. Consider mounting the end links outside the LCA cradle. You’ll need longer M14x1.5 grade 10.9 flanged bolts and some 1.5” aluminum spacers for the cradle though.

I’m talking to Jason at Trail Tailor about an extended KDSS relo kit. Not sure if he’ll decide to do it though. If turbo8 or someone else wants to though the parts list is pretty straightforward. Hardest part is finding the right bolts.

I assume some members have been running a similar setup without issue?

I would have to make 2 different lengths of spacers, one for the 200 arms and the other for the Tundra arms. The bolt length probably can be the same though.

Thanks for the response. I ordered some parts today based on your KDSS relocation thead. Not sure if I will get it all in before Cruise Moab, so may have to wait until after that. Only rubs at full lock to one side right now.

Cool. Shout if you have questions. Once the kdss relo is in moving the end links should be just a few minutes of work. Hardest part is getting the bolt to thread straight because the end links are angled and want to push it too far down. Definitely a custom kdss relo bracket with another 1/2” or so of movement forward would make them a lot easier to reinstall. You might need a prying bar on the sway bar to get the end links lined up.

It reduces bushing wear. The KDSS relo moves really arm forward 1”, so you add 1” of tweaking. Relocating the end links moves them 1.5” forward, so you end up with 0.5” of tweak, but now they’re tweaked backwards instead of forwards (not that it matters for bushing wear).

The perfect scenario is to fab your own KDSS relo brackets which push the bar 1.5” forward. If you do that and relo the end links outside the cradle then they will be perfectly straight

Prototype of my KDSS Relocation bracket that is 1.5" farther forward.... this will couple with the LCA bracket to bring he end links back into stock position outside of the OEM cradles, and still be in double sheer.
Test fit of the entire system is on track for mid-Dec.. and hopefully an off-road test as well.

if everything goes well, I could have this available in Jan/Feb as a complete kit.

I fixed my KDSS and passenger's side sway bar rub yesterday. zero rub now on 34s. (I say "I" but it was actually Rick @ ChiTown 4x4 that did the work since we had the truck on the lift to swap the diff fluid anyway). KDSS relo kit + mounting the sway bar end links on the outside of the LCA...

Does the 1.5" forward introduce any new problems versus 1"? Any other connected bushings for wear? I also have skid plates so I'm concerned if this will interfere with that as well.

Initial Test fit will be in 2 weeks with everything, we have the CNC programmed if we need to adjust the frame front Brackets.. I am running a CBI front full skid plate as well.. From my measurements, no interference but that will be proven out with the test fit, then immediately on to Uwharrie to Run it off road and put it though its paces.

I haven’t had any skid plate clearance issues with my asfir skids but of course every setup is different. Even alignments can affect the position slightly.

I think so long as the KDSS ram doesn’t contact anything you’ll be fine, but I’m anxiously waiting to hear because I really want a set of these to replace my Trail Tailor ones

My seat bar bushings were shot at 125k before I tried the KDSS relo. I ran them 20k miles with the relo and sway bar bushings outside the cradle, then finally swapped ‘em. They looked the same after that 25k miles. I’ve run the new end links for 10k miles or so and the bushings look brand new. I don’t see any other place you’d have wear from this except the end links.

FWIW I torque my sway bar end link bolts to 120 ft lbs in the LCA. I think the FSM says 97? I ran whatever the FSM said for ~2.5 years before I replaced my end links and went higher on the torque since it’s a single shear setup, so honestly the FSM spec is probably fine but I don’t think it’ll hurt to crank them further.
