That’s what you are supposed to do. Open the set screws three revolutions (I mark with a paint pen to ensure I have the extra right of amount of revolutions), then perform all suspension work. Once all work is done, I jounce the suspension by a very short drive over some in even terrain, then part the truck on flat ground. Wait 15 minutes (as per the Toyota FSM), then tighten the set screws to their factory torque spec of 10 lbf.

If you go too far in unscrewing the set screws, you won’t get much air in, what will happen is you will get a bunch of pressurized hydraulic fluid blasting out. I had a customer call me after a Toyota dealership installed BP-51s and he said that the ride felt “off” and the was smoke coming from the driver side. Well… that was the KDSS fluid blasting over the muffler and burning off, then an out of spec KDSS pressure leaving no sway bar feeling. The dealership said they weren’t sure how to fix it, and just paid me to do it.

Best thing to do, is just follow the FSM when doing any work, and you’ll be golden. If you run into anything, just shoot me a message.
You are the bomb.com my man.

Just wire brushed - painted (happened to have the same paint you mentinoed) and about to anti-sieze my 2017 with hex (odd, but thankful it's hex). I'm in TN so after 5 years the screws cracked no issue, but better take 5 minutes more while I'm greasing prop shafts and u-joints and knock it out.

I’ve slathered mine with marine grease ever since I purchased mine from Houston in 2016. It’s spent the last 6 years in salty Chicago. I’ll need to take a photo but I opened mine without fanfare last August. Fluid film/wool wax will wear off, marine grease lasts for years…

Whether paint or marine grease or LPS3 I think the point is with some attention these things aren't the disaster they come across as. But no one is buying a new one anymore.. so it's up to what the previous owner did or didn't do. Or where the rig came from..

This right here.

And yes Taco is a huge asset.

Well said, anything is better than nothing.

Sorry I’ve been away for some time @bloc. Been building, but now I take some of those builds and their owners overseas on adventures. So I’m more of a tour guide/mechanic-builder/security yahoo now.

Zero need to apologize, it sounds like your expertise has led to a new adventure and I'd never want to take away from that. I can always ping you when there's something I feel you'd have unique contribution to.

I was able to break my 2014 LC200 module screws with professional help. Went to Imagination Fabrication in Apex, North Carolina. Now, I spray monthly and am finally going to install a leveling kit. left both bolts welded on to have better leverage when need to open.

After installing my sliders I noticed mine were kinda crusty. I took the cover off (again) and gave them a squirt of penetrating oil. Fortunately, I was able to loosen both without much difficulty with an Allen wrench. After tightening them back down I slathered them with marine grease.
