Modifying the fuel filler to remove the restrictor. The holes were welded. The tank in place.

Fan shroud. Luckily the 2F shroud was close enough that it could be modified. I ended up lowering the shroud about 1.25" and moving it to the right about .25".

First I tack welded it to the radiator frame to re-drill the holes, then made filler panels for the top and bottom of the shroud. Notice the lower rad outlet. Its at a 45 to the right and angled toward the engine. This gets it around the shroud and just enough clearance on the PS pulley.

Random pics of other fitment issues to address.

1. The radiator support stay on the drivers side was shortened due to the left side motor mount placement.
2. The fitting for the low pressure line to the PS pump had to be cut and welded at a 45 get a hose on there. The connection was pointing at the frame. You could use a formed 90 hose.
3. Rad outlet is close but the angle is good for clearance. Its not as close as it looks in the pic.

Fitting a radiator overflow and a PS reservoir. The overflow is from an FJ60. The reservoir is from a 1HZ. Final fitup of the radiator and these parts.

At last I see an HJ40...

project is coming along nicely...we can't get Randy to stop bumping his gums about it since he's been back

You got to admit, Kev-bo, Chris is doing a heck of a job on the conversion.

Obviously, I couldn't be more happier about the way Chris is putting great effort into all that he has so far.

Exhaust. I put this together with 3" tube. Its a few mandrel bends, a flex section, and a straight through glass pack. It turned out quieter than you might think. It runs above the tube cross-member on the frame and exits behind the left rear tire.

The 40 is on the road now. Only driven 5-10 miles and its running great. There are a few loose ends to fix up in addition to a parking brake conversion for the rear disc brake setup that is on it already, and a traction bar install.

Whats the length of your rear driveshaft? I'm still going to put the same drivetrain you have in my 40 and attempt the crawl box install. Just need to check measurments and see how far the rear axle has to move back. Since I'm 4 linking the rear I don't have to worry about leafsprings hanging out the rear.

Thanks,
John

Id have to double check, but Im pretty sure it the measurement was right around 21" flange to flange - short but not horribly short. The angles were goofy with prior SOA work so I used a double joint. There is 0 room to move the engine forward from where it ended up.

Yeah I don't want the engine forward. But I'll move the rear axle back. Can you get me the measurement from the back of your tcase out put flange to the tub crossmember? That would be very helpful for my project and let me know what i have to work with. I will have to contact Marlin Crawler and get a measurement on their crawler box.

some phone pics in the next few = crappy pics. I went with a new trans isolator on a later model 60 series cross-member. The output just clears the frame member but its all fitting well.

So I will have to cut that crossmember out to fit the crawlerbox most likely. Thanks for all the info this prepares me for more unexpected fabrication. I'll have to pick up a crawler box mount the drivetrain then do my suspension links so I don't build a bunch of stuff that is going to be in the way of drivetrain.

some final posts to show the conclusion. This 40 is amazing to drive.

Making a bracket to hang the air cleaner from the side of the york compressor. I
formed a basket under the filter box to mount to both sides.
