Just Picked up a 1962 Hard Top FJ40

OK, I picked this thing up the other day, just because it was cheap and had some cool parts. Now I'm falling in love with her and may actually try to restore her once my '81 is done. She's very rough around the edges, but these old cruisers are so cool! I'd at least like to find another early 60's cruiser and use this one for parts.

I originally thought she was a '64 because that's what the VIN tag says. But after reading a few posts here in the FJ25 section, I discovered that she's actually a '62 since the VIN number begins with "2". Which makes sense to me now, since she has the high b-pillars, slide-up windows, vented roof, etc...Oh, and did I mention PTO!

So that's who got it! Glad you picked it up or I would have had to. More pics required....was the stamped bezel there?

LOL! I knew the local guys had their eyes on it! Yup, the stamped bezel is still there. It even had the tool roll with a few of the unused tools still there. The little engine adjustment kit with the feeler gauges, points file, and spark plug gapper is pretty neat. I'll post some more pics later.

I had a feeling that may have had some gems. Had the look of never having travelled out of West Hartford.

Congrats...Jim pointed it out to me, and we were talking about, but was sold before we could do anything...at least she found a good home.

I wouldn't change the frame...the truck looks pretty complete...very very cool!!!

Knowing what she sold for, I'd say you got an absolutely fantastic deal...why don't I ever get deals like that :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

If you change your mind, I'll give you double what you paid for it...

Great looking '62.... had to be an early production '62 since it has the slide up windows instead of the roll-ups I have in all my '62's. Looks to be very complete you've already got a lot of the harder to find parts there for a rest. If you don't mind me asking what is the vin# I'd be curious to know where it falls in relation to my 3.

Cool set-up with the spare tire mount on the side FJ25 style, but I don't think that was the original location as you can see the original latch catch on the rear sill..... cool none the less

Good luck with the resto. and let me know if I you need some parts!

Too cool! great score!

Nice find. It sounds they were about giving it away. We need more pictures. Curious how the PTO operates. Looks like a shifter coming out of the floor right ext to the tranny cover. Plus a knob on the dash that looks like Ramsey. Which transmission/transfer case does it have. The early three speed is rare to find the correct PTO and shifter. Not sure if the 62 had the four roller fairhead. Are those the stock defrost vents in the windshield? My 62 has no vents or ashtray. My early 63 (62 production) had both defrost vent and ashtray.

Looking at you pictures again it appears you may have the pintle hook safety chain eyelets on the back as seen in post #78 here https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj25-owners-group/466481-1963-fj40-build-thread-4.html Doesn't look like the pintle hook is still there so go ahead and mail them to me:rolleyes: Serious be careful with them if those are stock. I got lucky that one of my FJ25 still had them there. My rust bucket early FJ40 had the pintle and eyelets. I ended up cutting out the back section of the frame out so I could work on saving the eyelets, which I did using a torch on the nuts. I always wanted to post "I toasted my nuts but at least I saved my eyes" Even if you don't end up using the eyelets they make great trading stock for other rare parts.

I have a set of eyelets from Nerd but the threads are wasted. I am planning on cutting the studs off and drilling/tapping for a bolt to secure them. Or I could tap the studs for a smaller nut. One of the many projects to do.
