Now my. Truck does not want to idle correctly, got fresh rebuilt carb, that worked great before now there is no adj in it at all. My truck used to start with in half a turn of engine now I have to put gas to floor and it barely wants to start, rpm go up for a while then drop to a point that engine wants to die. I have looked wverywhere for intake leak, I strayed carb cleaner and nothing

Somehow, I'm thinking Remflex gasket is not your problem here....

Did you reconnect all of your hoses (brake booster, PCV, EGR)? Reconnect idle solenoid?

Are the manifolds warped (the answer is obviously yes), so the next question is how warped? Were they measured? Was the manifolds machined flat? Were the boltholes spotfaced level after machining?
What did the gasket look like that came off?

That's the BEST question RIGHT THERE! Obviously SOMETHING made you want to change your gasket in the first place. So it is possible that something ELSE was already going on at the same time.

Not that I have any love for the remflex gasket.

Get a vacuum guage. Get a reading. Report back. Then we can help you better.

gasket wasnot bad, well i could tell were it was leaking, but not like it was looking like the gaskets i have seen others post. my but it only had like 8 miles on it and like 4 hours of run time, most of which did not have an exhaust system on. my main question is not the gasket it is why did it run wonderful before, but i could hear a exhaust leak, now no leak and it runs like s***.

i dont have a vac gauge, but i can probably get one. i am a nob, what do they do and how will this help me...

thanks everyone!

couple other things, seems like it is flooding out, fuel in carb window is full, not at half way point. when u turn it off you can see the carb smoking for a while from the top. when the truck is at idle the smoke rolling out is black black

A carb float can get stuck in the down position, or even fill with fuel, so that the bowl overfills.

Is the electric fuel cut off switch working!!! I forgot to hook mine back up the other day and couldn't keep the truck running. I realized what I did and was thankful it wasn't something else!

seems they are all hooked up. but i will double check. it does seem float is stickin... jim why would that be ?

float needs attention.

check your float adjustment. Not starting and idling issues is a common byproduct of a float that is stuck. since you didn't adjust anything, it is probably got a piece of foreign object in the needle and seat. double check this before you chase other ghosts. If you have fuel running out of the carb on the inside it is stuck.

thanks... how do i do that, do i havr to take top of carb off

Sounds like the carb bowl is ovrfilling. Something is holding the needle & seat open.

Step 1. Put a little container (cut off bottom of oil bottle is good) under carb. Remove 14mm drain plugs from front of carb, let the excess gas pour out, and it may take the trash out w/ it.

2. W/ plugs out, crank engine for a few seconds to pump fuel through the now wide open needle & seat.

3. Reinstall drain plugs and try cranking engine while watching sight glass.
-- If fuel level goes right up glass and off the top, stop. go back to #1.
-- If fuel level stays on the glass, drive it around, see if it works.

Before you pull the top off the carb, try this.

Pull one of the 14mm access plugs below the sight glass and drain the fuel bowl. Careful to catch the gas and not let it fall on a hot exhaust.

Then start the truck. watch the fuel level. If the truck runs fine until a couple of seconds after the window is full of gas, then you're most likely dealing with a float issue.

At THAT point, I would pull the top off the carb to investigate. Others will tell you to try other methods to free a potential blockage, but since that only results in dirt going further INTO the carb, I do not recommend that approach.

ok guys i got it.... i tapped in top of carb and it must have made that float un stick. ran it for over an hour and drove 1 mile and seems to be running good! thanks so much for all your help! just got to put air cleaner back on now and make sure it runs tha same with that. no exhaust leak now and carb window is at half full like it should be. idleing at 650 with now problems just like it did before. starts wonderful also. :) it was a better day today than yesterday! be posting pics on my build thread tom. thanks again

jim and mark do u think i should do what u said even though it is working now. i got brand new fuel tank, all new lines 2 fuel filters in between there. new fuel pump. only old junk i got is hard fuel lines from pump to carb. fuel filter both look brand new. got total of 5.3 hours on engine and brand new jimc carb rebuild. or do u guys think just because i was jerking that carb around taking it on and off doing the remflex that the float just stuck for what ever reason.
