Folks, Another slot is coming open here as Nathan and I will not be able to make this trip. Nathan starts school the very next day. That normally would not be a big deal but this year he will be at a new campus. The campus tour is the weekend of this trip. He needs to do the tour and be well rested for class on Monday. In the past Nathan and I have always done this trip as a team. I'm not going to do it without my sidekick. We will have to bow out and let someone else have the fun this year. @FJinTegaCay

That has been a standard go-to notice for State Parks in NC, SC, TN, VA for years now. Usually the request is that wood not come from out of state. Frankly, I don't get the logic. Many of the State Parks we visit border the neighboring state anyway. Do the State Parks folks seriously believe that the bugs know not to cross state lines on their own? Furthermore the same bug that is a problem in NC is already a problem in TN. I can understand not bringing in wood from, let's say, China. Sure. But NC wood in TN? It's the same wood with the same bugs. It's one of those rules that sounds nice but is unreasonable and unenforceable.

My wood gets heat treated when it burns in the fire. What I don't burn goes back to NC with me and gets stacked up in the back yard. I don't discriminate against any TN bugs that might have gotten on my NC wood during the trip. They are all welcome in my yard so long as they go through the proper vetting process and learn to speak North Carolinian.

Seriously, I hate wood bugs as much as the next guy. My family has been in the timber business for 70 years. I know the damage these insects inflict. I see it on my own trees. I am guilty of bringing firewood across state lines but I make it a point to bring clean hardwood that I personally cut and split. I don't bring rotten stuff and I don't leave wood behind. Camping is not camping without a fire. If the parks make it too hard for folks to bring wood to build campfires, they will start cutting down the trees in the parks or cutting off branches which weakens the trees and turns them into bug bait.

I have spoken with anyone besides Rafael regarding group meals, it seems I will need to email the group their assignments. I hope to make time and do that later this week.

You will be sorely missed. I was looking forward to hanging out with you and seeing the Turdle on the trip. Thanks for the advance notice. I've emailed @SeanLX to see if he can make it.
Anyways, like it was posted or emailed earlier, if anyone has any desires for seeing/visiting sites, let me know and I will do my best to find them on map, navigate you there.

I plan to do my front axle/knuckle rebuild before I go, giving myself a 2 weeks to do it as I can screw things up.

I sent an email to you with my wish list. Not sure if it is logistically possible. Best wishes with the knuckle rebuild. I'm counting on you making the trip.

Gents, I am going to have to bow out... Nothing nefarious is going on, but I have some personal medical issues that I need to work out.

Understood. I hope everything gets worked out soon.

Can I get on the list? I'll give up my wait list spot on the 3rd trip if I squeeze into this one. 8-year-old mechanic Luke will be in tow. Alex.eyssen@gmail.com

Alex, you're in. I'll email you momentarily.

No, I hit him up last night about the last spot open . He can't

FYI - I'll be bringing my son's 60 instead of the 80. Surprise, surprise, things haven't gone as planned and it won't be ready.

FUUUUUUUCK!

Second time a TBI motor has forced me to pay too much damn money to tow it home.

So glad I'm keeping the Toyota motor in my 80.

So glad this happened on the road and not in the middle of nowhere on the trail.

I was hoping that you'd make it home. Forgot to ask about fan(s)?
