I was amazed on how well the 80 was balanced. Keep in mind. These weights included ARB bumpers front and rear, 16.5 Warn and 35's with 17"x9" aluminum wheels.
 
So I called Mike to order my coilovers, 12"x2.5" @ $1800 delivered when MIke said "To bad you can't make 14"x 2" work?" "I can save you $500." Well that was music to my ears. I figured I could add 2" to the towers for near nothingA happy day! Recieving my first ever pair of Coilover shocks!

I soon was thinking about the towers and how to add 2" in height. It had to look/be right. I decided the top was where it needed to be.

Working on the axel brackets to except the lower ends of the coilovers worked well but took many hours to endsure proper clearences.

As for the track bar, I used a universal bracket (modified) from "Ruff Stuff" for the housing. I cut off the axel end of the rod and welded a threaded bung to except a heim joint...

I'm not a fan of heim joints for steering or track bars but it had been a while and fingured they must be ok by now. (history) I had used good quality heims on a project years ago and wasn't impressed when they developed a slight "click" as in slop. Anyhow, The track bar heim here will be replaced soon with a "Johnny Style" joint thats rebuildable. I used the stock end at the frame.

Dang good work.

I am looking at my truck and trying to figure out a way to fit as much front travel in as possible. I am thinking of mounting the lower end of the shock to lower links back from the axle a bit. Ought to allow a few more inches of wheel travel above the travel at the shock.

Even mounted where you have yours allows for more than 14" of travel at the wheel. Wheel travel would only match shock travel if the shock eye were centered above the axle or if there was no change in pinion at all across the full range of the suspension.

Your right LC, Are you planning coilovers too or just to get mor travel out of external shocks? For the coilovers was told at least 5 to 10 degrees angled back and the same for the top leaning inward. This helps the shock perform through out it travel. I've seen some mounted straight up and down and during articulation the coilover will have a greater side to side movment hurting performance. Look how the racers do it. Sounds like your on the right track.

I'd need to look at the few higher end trucks running a solid front axle in the desert racing orgs.

5-10 degrees angled back in front is a good rule of thumb.. 5-10 degrees angled forward in back.. Or 90 degrees thru a bellcrank for me in back...
 
Oh my. That is insane. I bet it will ride good and perform off road well also.

Probably about the same time 4 Wheel Parts starts to stock floor mats for 80 series... or anything else for that matter that does not fit on a jeep or chevy... :doh:
