My dad has owned this FJ since the '70s. It's been in the ocean a couple of times so the body and frame are totally shot. Finally something in the drivetrain went and he just parked it - this was at least 10 years ago. Since then, nature has been doing its thing.

Jeep

To add to the fun, the vehicle is located on a small island off Vancouver Island that is relatively accessible but does not have ferry service!

It seems like a waste to just junk it - what should I do? Are there some parts that are especially rare that I should pull?

Thanks all!

Ok so it is NOT a Jeep. Now way to get it off the Island? I have seen worse ones restored back East. I guess it is all relative....

Yeah, we always just called it "The Jeep" when I was growing up so that's where the album title came from.

Sure, you could hire a barge, but that costs money too!

I bet someone could get it on a boat for you. It must have big time sentimental value. Almost anything can be fixed. Just some thoughts...

I'm looking for F engine out of a 1970 model but my guess this one is junk. I see a few things that may be worth saving but guessing for the most part isn't even worth the effort to get it to a scrap yard. It ashame to see to cruisers like this that get parked with on effort made to protect them.

Bezel is upside down.

Seems it will be taken by the Cruiser Gods.

The only kinda rare part I see is the backup light on the driver's rear quarter.

Sure, there's some sentimental value but realistically it's waaay too far gone. I guess I could jack up the steering wheel and drive a new truck under it.

Any other rare parts? Engine is probably OK.

Put it on eBay, or some other type of auction with “buyer arranges pickup” caveat, start bidding at 1$:p. The way today’s market is for these things somebody will resurrect it. Or turn it into a fort for the grand kids!

The tailgate is useful for fellas with ambulance doors like me. I’ll be searching for one soon.

Curious if you can get it started...

Doubt the engine is good with the carb open to the atmosphere. This switch and the knobs are getting harder to get. Knobs usually fair better up north. If the handle to release the back of the seat are still there those two are worth taking. The little chains on the used on the back driver's to keep it in place are worth something. Dome light over the driver's side B pillar. Even if rusted a good plastic cover should be saved. How are the doors cards? Those didn't take it to the US.

Am I right is this a 70 model?

Don’t paint it!

😛

That has to be some of the saddest photos I have ever seen. Almost makes me want to cry.

If you’re going to part it out I would be interested in the instrument cluster and the glove box door. I could use them on an art project.

Looks just a tad worse than mine did when I bought it in '91.

I'd be willing to help you get it to Vancouver Island if there's a way to do it. There are some parts I'd be interested in... and I know someone who's been looking for the inner door panels from one of our rigs. Come check out the local page... CA.BC- Vancouver Island Cruisers

If you part it, there are likely others of us who'd help out... don't know if anyone who has a boat big enough to haul it out in one piece... I don't have a boat at all. Can tow a car trailer with my bigger rig if you get it to this Island.

I'd like to buy some parts off you go that route.

ive owned many fj40s like that im seeing some money in the parts, all the small parts there have value il bet you could turn that into a grand in cash parting it or more

I just parted out a cruiser in similar shape and I've netted around $1500 bucks. But the top on mine was in a little better condition. Absolutely grab all the dash knobs, windshield wiper bottle and rear hatch struts. Basically you could make a post to the part-out forum and slowly sell stuff.

Start spraying PB Blaster on stuff now though
