Is the cruiser supposed to be this slow?

want to go fast?
then go buy a civic or a challenger

want to go off road? then drive the 40.

crack a cold pop, open a bag of what ever, crank the tunes and enjoy the drive ... you don't have a choice ... 40s are designed to FORCE you to enjoy the journey,

I am of the school of thought that every motor comes with a "built in" number of revolutions before its useful life is done. Its up to us as to how we spend those rpm's.
I choose to use mine putting around the woods!!! And holding up traffic!:grinpimp:

As long as you're in the slow lane, who cares? One-lane roads notwithstanding, I've found most of the slow traffic isn't behind me, but slowing down in the fast lane to take a gander at the cruiser. As I see it, anything to get people to focus on the road instead of their flipping cell phone is progress. So, drive that cruiser on the freeway and make the world a safer place.

I love the looks...most people have the look 'What is that thing' :D

Only had one bad experience with the whole driving slow thing

One time....

Coming back from Maine...cruising up the hill just before mass I got pulled over....
(Officer) "Do you know why I pulled you over?"
(Me) "Honestly I have no idea"
(Officer) "You were going 45 MPH"
(Me) OK
(Officer) "Everybody is going 65-70 MPH"
(Me) :hhmm:
(Officer) "Have you been drinking?"
(Me) "No not at all"
(Officer) "Smoking weed?"
(Me) "No not at all"
(Officer) "Please step out of the truck"
(Me)

I get out he does a sobriety test...pass with flying colors...

Has a felow trooper come with the sniffer...pass with flying colors...Trooper friend waits with me.
He searches the inside of my truck...asked to look in my ammo boxes after I assure him he wouldn’t find anything (at least he asked LOL)

After the hr I've been waiting he comes over and says "Your free to go"
(me)

busted for not speeding ...
funny s***.

"you doing weed?"
"nope, this old truck might have though. it is pretty laid back"

i just keep mine around 55-60 on the freeway, and just cruise and smile from the slow lane.
These things are not the greatest handling at speed anyway, they are made for tooling around on back roads and trails etc :)

But i drive like an old man in my cruiser :D

me too:p

probably the main reason i went from losing my license 4 times (for demerits) in 9 years to a clean license for the last 25 years ...
cruisers are slow
cruisers are cool

I remember buying an olds 98 to take the 455 engine out of, towed it home with an fj40 on the beltway around DC. Was 19 years old doing about 40 mph in the slow lane fearing for my life flat towing that huge car, and people were flicking me off, yelling at me. Worse was people would go around me and then cut right in front of me to get back into the slow lane, and others would tailgate me and the car I was towing. Never can figure out why people get so irritated about what speed a car is going in the slow lane where there are 4 other lanes to drive in, and willing to almost wreck me in the process. There is a reason I do not live in the north east anymore.

Smile and wave.

I can't make myself go over 60 in mine. I have one short stretch of freeway in my commute and the limit on that stretch is 60 so I'm fine. I do avoid the interstate anytime I can because I hate to treat the old girl that way. If you want to travel great distances on the interstate with your cruiser do it a favor and put it on a trailer. I've never been a speed demon and as I get more mature I love the slow and steady ride in my 40 over anything I've ever owned. I had a beemer guy honk and flip me off as he passed because I was doing 55 on a two lane highway. I caught up with him at a gas station and apologized, that threw him off. :steer:

I don't know what everyone's prob is, mine goes 60-70 on they hi-way even over the mountains.....(with the tow bar hooked to my f-250 power stroke!)

Well...

I drive a stock 1972 on the freeway every day. Original F engine, stock carb, stock air cleaner, DUI distributor, stock 3 speed, 33 inch tires and stock 4:10 gears. I run 75 mph with plenty left over. My steering is in EXCELENT shape and my brakes are well adjusted. I havde no problems at all. However, I grew up driving various old Willys wagons, Model A's, Scouts and ancient Chevy pickups all with whipped suspensions, so I developed a "comfort level" with road trips in sloppy handling vehicles. I find that when I drive my wife's Explorer, I'm all over the road because there's no slop in anything.

Make sure your rig is in good mechanical shape (especially drum brake adjustment) and drive in your comfort zone.

Sometimes I miss my straight six. I have a 350 TBI and at times it can be scary fast. I can cruise with the big boys on the carpool lane but sometimes I catch air when crossing a bridge with a bad connecter. Driving slower allows you to enjoy your Cruiser more and I'm reminded by my GF, "whats the rush"?

a H55F can cure a lot of issues on the highway.
and
as the one poster stated, if you truck is in good mechanical shape doing 75 is not an issue. when i still drove gasser 40s i would do 110 - 120 k/h with no issues at all but once i stuck the H55F in i found the truck liked those speeds much better.

if you are not comfortable at those speeds then drive the speed you ARE comfortable with. after all, if the speed limit is 55 then THAT is the MAX speed EVERYONE is supposed to drive at and if you drive 50 YOU ARE THE ONE OBEYING THE SPEED.

todays society is a hurry hurry hurry nut house, what they do not realise is that all they really are hurrying to is their grave.

seriously, it is the journey we need to enjoy, not just the destination.

While you can make them feel safe at higher speeds, they are not. If the car in front of you has to slam on the breaks or there is road debris or any other surprises you will find out the hard way why a short wheel base offroad vehicle should not be going that fast.

really?
all these years and i never knew that, shucks, i am lucky to be alive.

seriously, that statement is complete BS.
but if you feel that way then drive the way that makes YOU feel safe.

when someone asks me 'how do you drive this thing' ....i reply like i stole it!!
i know mine can get some speed about it, had one of the front wheels off the ground slightly when i was coming through the mountains close to home a couple years back, 3rd gear and foot flat to the floor around the corner! never done it again though haha i've had the old truck somewhere between 125-130 k/mh (78-81 mile an hour) feels like its floating!!

Don't know how you guys do it! I drive mine at 60 kph and I feel like I'm flying low! But then again the roads here are like bombed out airfields even on the Highways Hmmmm?:hhmm:
