Hello everybody.
New guy in the forum, again, and I have another find that I am wondering about. It is close to home, so i can go and actually look at it and drive it. My question is, Is it worth the price? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

It looks like a rattle-can resto to me...

And it's been desmog'd and has SOR headers and a Weber carb ... So clearly not all original if that's what you're after. He'll have a lot of trouble selling in Calif.

Love the pic with all the cigarette smoke wafting thru it.

Sale info from Ashcom Toyota which, I believe, was in N. Calif, so it's probably a Calif car.

Seems like a nice truck, but I wouldn't pay that much for it, even if the mileage is accurate. Seller is a flipper, too.

But, the market is crazy for vintage trucks now, so ... It's about 10 miles from me, if you're really interested.

Assume 121000 miles. Say minor rust on bottom of doors, no PS or A/C. High 20's in this market. $30 max. - Pretty hard to tell with 5 dinky pictures and a short paragraph. I've heard of Rhino lining but Hippo lining is new to me? Would prefer NO lining. New paint so ask for pics before the paint and take a magnet along for the ride. Sounds like a nice truck but you need to go look or get way more and better photos.

Pay $100 to $200 to have it inspected.

Yeah, I agree with it not being original. And yes, he does appear to be a flipper. That is not the original paint, he told me that it was gold and then painted red. Nice truck, but I agree that it’s not nice enough for that price.
The cig smoke was pretty funny!
Thanks for the offer to check it out, I appreciate that.

You know, there was a mustard '78 on Craig's about 6-8 months ago, somewhere in mid-Calif that went cheap as it had been abandoned behind someone's house ... It was in great shape for having cooked outside for 10 years ... I wonder ...

I get the impression you know it’s not worth the asking price based on how it sits. So I’ll point a few things even my rookie eye can spot on the tiny pictures. Right away, something is goofy with the front axle. It looks more forwardly placed than a stock 40. It also looks wider than the rear axle. IMO a proper paint job means removing small parts and removing surface rust/ hidden rust. Very simple to do and if not done it’s a signal of many other overlooked details. Something as simple as removing the windshield rests was not done, they just sprayed them. I would also expect the roof to be removed before paint as rust is notoriously found on the top rail of the hardsides and the rear ambi door header. You can see the spray over the roof gasket. Hard to say what it’s worth. I’m more of a sceptical buyer type, so I’d be more comfortable near the 10k range on this. Will it be worth 20k in 5 years when pant starts bubbling from rust? I doubt it. Oh and if you snag this one, the bezel needs be white:D

it's listed by a company in Los Angeles? is it for sale in CA? doesn't it need to pass smog to be sold in CA? no chance of that looking at the pics.
does the brake master have any fluid in it?

Needs to pass smog to be 'Registered' in CA. Seller is supposed to supply certification, but you know how that goes...

got it, I was under the impression it needed to pass to be sold.
probably hoping to sell it out of state.

So, to summarize, keep looking...

I really appreciate the feedback from you guys!
Way to catch the little things, Bigred. Yes, it does seem to sit awkward.
3puppies- yes it’s in Ca, and he did mention that he had to do a little finagling for the smog.
There is one more in Ca that I’m looking at. I’ll have to post it for you guys so I can get more opinions and insight.

Asking price and selling price are two different things..... if its close enough you could go look at it, armed with the knowledge from all the mudders who posted here, and maybe reach a fair price.... never know.

a little finagling.......that's funny...........that's a huge mis-representation

Another long shot would be to post a Wanted ad in mud’s classifieds. I bet there are folk’s who might be thinking of selling or would help you locate a rig. I think if you write a good summary of what you are hoping for, you might get some help. Also, I’ve seen a couple great buys on Bring-A-Trailer. Link: Land Cruiser FJ40

What do you guys think about a lot of these coming from Florida? Seems to be a lot from the east coast.

Lots of Florida rigs come from Costa Rica. Black rubber bumper cones on front bumper, no heater, split bench front seats, diesel engines. Some are in pretty clean condition, others have been 'worked over.' Caveat Emptor!

What do you guys think of this one, worth it?
