It's self-reflection time. I enjoy the idea of owning a 40 more than actually owning a 40.

If you enjoy white-knuckling at 42mph, the feeling of sitting on shifting-cinder blocks, fuel-smell and tractor steering then maybe this lifestyle is for you, for me it is not. I have probably put a couple thousand miles on this thing since I bought it 5 years ago.

Ok, here are the pros and cons

Cons:
-It's a 40
-There is some filler in the rear quarters
-The weber carb needs a tune (this is probably the first thing I would just go ahead and replace)
-The paint is not original and is decent but not great
-Battery is currently dead

Pros:
-Genuinely a good runner. Was told engine was rebuilt, all inputs work well, transmission shifts well, 4LO, etc.
-OEM soft top and steel bows
-Interior was stripped and line-x'd
-Frame/Axles/Tub all very rust free and in good shape. (Have some pics from the PO before the Line-x was applied, will post below).

I try to not keep track, but I probably have $17k-$20k in this thing. I think $13k is a fair sale price.

Here are a few pics:

As per PM to OP

I figured out its going to be 24 hrs driving round trip for me to pick this up and I have a dog that is recovering from a recent issue.

I cant subject him to that kind of ride this soon nor do I have a good place to leave him for the duration as it would stress him out too much at this point.

So I need to withdraw from the list of potential purchasers as much as it pains me to let this 40 go

I hope it goes to a good home

@Bludozer - if you look at the dash, on the far left just below the A-pillar, is there a circle cut in there? My understanding is that's how to tell if it is a Factory Soft Top

Anyone else have ways to tell? I heard that from Jeremiah Proffitt, and I don't trust that guy
Dont know if the body is a FST . However, I do recognize the soft top bows, they look exactly like my Palkistani soft top bows down to the exact same primer color. They definitely are not FST bows because of the way the middle top bow bolts to the connector between the front and rear bows.

None of that detracts from this being a good deal for someone. If I wasnt deep into restoring my FJ40 I would jump on this one

I thought I read that the seller didn't want to sell it anymore? They didn't want the hassle?

I'd like to see a pic of the dash below the drivers side A-pillar.

Shipping for me is $2k. I just bought a Mazda CX5 today, My 250 comes in next week, and I'm looking at another 40 next week. This project may be too much to add.

Update:

It is definitely still for sale, not sure where anything conflicting with that came from. Have had honestly way more interest than I was expecting, but lots of back and forth, some dropping out for personal reasons, etc.

I am trying to be respectful of the order of which I have received the inquiries, but I also need to get this thing sold.

I am headed out of town for the holiday weekend, but to those who have expressed interest, I will try to be as responsive as feasible via PM. Many folks are inquiring from across the country, I am happy to hold the truck but will need a deposit to mark it sold.

Dan you should definitely send some of your buyers over to my ‘75 For Sale thread. It seems you have more than you you can handle. Happy to help!

How has this not sold yet? People were lined up initially.
Have you sold anything on mud before  . Kidding but also not really

I have had a lot of people reach out, then drop out for personal reasons or shipping being too expensive. There are also a handful waiting on other pictures which I haven't provided yet (my fault there, though have been out of town as well.)

To anyone else interested, it is still available.

I guess I’ve only bought “stuff” here before. Yeah…I’ve only gotten a couple of responses to my for sale post. Same thing…too much…not good timing….etc. Sigh. I’ve accepted that it needs to go…now just need to get it gone.

Everything sells in its own time these days. There going to be one less on the for sale section this weekend so a little less competition.😉

just curious, which one is yours stclair?
I scrolled but didn’t see it
