Is anybody still interested in a center console? (4 Viewers)

What a fantastic thing to be developing. I have a std base-model console with the RHD cup holder which is a PITA to actually use because there's not enough room. My 80 has no rear bracket for securing a console to the floor so when I got a second-hand factory one I worked out a way to rig up my own that bolts to a now-unused front bench seatbelt mount in the floor (with an extra internal OEM bracket thingy!).

One thing to keep in mind with centre consoles is the 'galaxy' of movement for the manual gear stick is a lot different to that of the auto's so if the console has a high protrusion up at the front it may interfere with gear selection. I don't know if the part-time and full-time transfer case selectors operate in a vastly different movement range.

No cup holders (particular for front seat driver and passenger) are not really a big issue IMHO as most sensible people don't eat/drink and drive. ;) However as a place to sit a water bottle they're handy.

Im definitely in for a RHD unit, looks great.

I don't really want to share the road with someone who lacks either the coordination, or situational awareness to be able to safely take a drink while driving

Welp, 3rd PROTOTYPE, UNFINISHED, UNPAINTED, UNPOWDERCOATED setup has been test fit in an early dash model and IT FITS PERFECT. Hopefully after this weekend will be able to test fit in a 95+ dash to verify fitment there. The same pieces are used for both, just assembled slightly differently, so if it fits the 95, it's time to make some incredibly minor adjustments and order some parts!

Fit them up in stages, since they will be available together and separately (center console and shifter console).

Pics below show:

The shifter console has an interchangeable gauge/switch/plug plate (just in time for that boost gauge!). We will offer a few options and a completely blank one so you can roll your own.

The switch plate and the backing piece that holds the switches to the rear of the t-case shifter are made from aluminum so you can easily file the OEM spec holes to fit Carling style in a matter of minutes.

You can see the four empty holes on the side, those are mirrored on the left side and are for future attachments (RAM thingys, cup holders, etc).

It uses an OEM t-case boot from a different application since the 80 series ones are not easy to find.

Here you can see the center console with the stock shifter console. The holes right behind and above the e-brake handle are for the cupholder and the internal storage stuff (those parts haven't made it back to the shop yet, will follow up when they do).

We got it figured out so the lid will be available with a leather cover or blank if you want to do your own thing.

Both fit up together nicely. Next post will have some wide shots showing the whole thing and some of the insides.

You can see all the different kinds of gauges and switches that fit in various places here. The three right next to where the shifter console meets the center console are standard for OEM switches (PWR/2nd, seat heater, etc) but as mentioned above can easily be filed to fit a carling switch. All kinds of room for all kinds of different switches/gauges in the upper plate.

welp, looks like you better stop driving then. I see those people every time I'm on a paved road.

True. It's the same here in Aus.

Most stressful part of teaching my boy to drive this past year is teaching him to expect every other driver to be fu king useless

I take some comfort in knowing my 80 gives me a good amount of protection

can you make the gauge and switch panel angled toward the driver more? i think it would be a lot easier to see for the driver and the passenger doesn't need to see them.

My daughter developed some pretty salty language after she learned to drive.

There is an easy solution for that....

@ppc beat me to it, and there aren't going to be any changes at this point, we've already ordered the first batch of production run.

all that being said, pictures don't really do it a lot of justice, they are actually pretty normal to the driver eyeballs when all installed.

Being in Phx, all I can think about is burning the chit out of my arm on that thing. Definitely looks nice though... what's the price point? I'm expecting no less than $1k...

It’s actually going to have an induction furnace installed below the lid (and no more cover as has been discussed previously) so everybody in the other states can burn themselves too. We are shooting for a price point of no less than 50k currently.
