@smokedpig Forgot to mention …be sure your motor is up to par without other issues…the Sniper EFI won’t cure other problems and may in fact exacerbate them.

What year original Aisan? there's a date code stamped on it. If it's the '74 I would make every effort to make it work.
Based on this:

Looks to be May 27, 1976 (6 E 27). Still worth it?

A mechanical fuel pump rebuild is pretty easy to do. I think citiracer has a kit or SOR and not very expensive. A mechanical pump runs at the speed of the engine as it’s driven from the cam. Once rebuilt will last a long time.

Oooh, that does look rough. Seems to have been last serviced by a knuckle-dragger with the wrong screwdriver and fittings from Ace hardware. And it's a vacuum-operated secondary.
Personally, I prefer the mechanically operated secondary.
That one may be of use to someone here on 'Mud, someone is always looking for a spare or spares. Perhaps it could be made serviceable but would probably require a Guru.

I ordered a new mechanical fuel pump from City Racer today. Will report back once it is installed. 🤞

I looked at the listing for this 40 in western mass far too many times! I'm glad you bought it and joined up with the MUD crew! Now I know what the rest of the story is for it!
Welcome

A small (40) world it seems...

From your photo it looks like your 1971 F motor has a 2F valve cover. And you’re running low on brake fluid. Congratulations on getting a 40. Mine is also a 1974.

When I bought my '67, it had a 2F, rubber fuel lines from a cheap edelbrock fuel pump into a Weber 32/36, with a weird rube goldberg contraption that gave me about 30% throttle actuation.

Ran new NiCopp hardlines to a City Racer / Fuji carb, went back to an OEM mechanical fuel pump, connected the carb to a later 40 series pedal and linkage, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires and a new distributor, and could not believe it was the same rig. Refreshing the air/ fuel delivery system in its entirety increased drivability tremendously for me.

Thanks igotta40!

Good eye. it does have the 2F valve cover with the oil cap and also the 1F filler tube on the side of the block. A real Frankenstein.

There is a leak in the drivers rear wheel cylinder (or line) that's draining that rear reservoir. I fixed the front brakes but still need to pull apart the rear. Stops good enough for now. It does require some leg strength though. I have a booster and master cylinder on the wish list.
