Since I am in the planning stages of a 6.2L Gen5 swap into my LX450 I am anxiously waiting on results of the new idler gear. I want to do the 9% overdrive to help out with the final drive ratio since I will have plenty of power available. I plan to keep Displacement on Demand and look to get good fuel mileage. Planning for limited off road, mostly on road use, quiet tires etc.

Anyone else use the OD gears on a V8 swap?
 
Hardly, when I say Limited Offroad, I don't live in Colorado and or Moab but when I go there I do off road the trails/mountain passes, hard to do with an LS/Alvalon.... Long drives pulling a trailer to get there from Oklahoma as well.

yeah, thats a terrible idea. search on here and you will find several members that had major issues with it.
 
Not with the Gen5 engines and direct injection. Yeah the older versions were troublesome. It can be removed fairly easily if necessary. I daily drive a 2015 Silverado for work with a 5.3 gen 5 and I love it.

To achieve the 3.3:1 low range, you must do the high range underdrive and one of our low-range t-case gear options as shown in the gearing chart. As both the high range and low range are driven from the input gear (see the chart for the gear teeth count) you change your low range with a high range change as well. Hence how the 3.1:1 gears get 3.3:1 in the end. Clear as mud?

I think the 1.1:1 high (which when compared to 410s is equivalent of 456:1 ring and pinions - which is nice with 35” tires) and 3.3 low range is a very marketable combination. Saves the hassle of regearing front and rear ends plus gives a lower overall low range than one would achieve with ring and pinions alone. I’ll be in touch soon!

What is the additional step / work required for the hundred series?

The 100 requires a new input shaft and clip. We can provided the needed parts.
 
I'll get some pictures posted but Dave did some fantastic side by side gear mesh/pattern photos with the stock gears and the stock idler, stock gears and modified and our high range gears and the modified idler. In the end we both agreed the pattern with the stock ideler was better than the modified idler when using UD gears. Next up to try the modified idler with OD high range gears.

So, it's our opinion moving forward they the UD gears will be installed as they have for the last decade and as we've experience with all lower gear sets 4x-8x, some additional noise should be expected. Jury is out on the OD high range gears until we can mimic Dave's install meshing.
