If someone gave you a $1000 and told you to spend it on your FJ, what would U do/buy

Dana 60 front axle to replace the 10 bolt I have now. Left overs would go to fund the 3 link.

I ordered a CNT front 60 housing, outboard kit and high steer kit and whatever steering parts I could get till I got to 1200. I had a little more cash but it never goes as far as it should. More parts to sit and look at.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, PS seems to be the most common and popular upgrade. Is The AC unit fromCruiser Crap worth the money? The MIG welder is a strong contender as is a family cage from Metaltech or roof rack and feet/bars from Diamond Rack

-Poser- we have plenty of brass and lead, as for Gold we are not stocked up on that one yet. Speaking of brass and lead, if you all haven't read "Patriots-Surviving The Coming Collapse", it's a great read, my wife really got into it; the the topic of prep far easier after she put herself in the characters of the books shoes.

I'm wondering if I should cut off the home made lift that the PO did. It's held up so far and from what he told me, the truck performed with it, but I feel that might be money well spent

I'd try & score a M1008 CUCV from govliquidation.com. Then, swap the LC body on the M1008's chassis. A lot of work, but your new drivetrain will be far superior than what you already have.

That has been a TuT discussion. Great idea

Right now I would like to get the damn thing from leaking on my garage floor. I would pay $1000 for that about now.

Fuel Injection. With car prices these days a wrecked Fuel Injected 350 could likely be found and installed for under a Grand.

Well I will admit that one of our reasons for getting a pre 80's FJ with point ignition and no electronics was to have a "hardened" vehicle, we needed something that could keep running in the event of an EMP. I mean ultimately I have no idea if it would or not, but we are trying to keep things as simple as possible.

Power steering would be nice, I'll admit that, but it's something that will come later, right now we are treating this FJ as a pack mule, it needs to be able to start up, go and carry, (in the event of something tragic), other than that, it will be my daily driver, but I only have 12 miles to work and only 2 miles on the highway.

I"d buy my friend Mike in Chehalis an early Christmas present like a winch or something.

Houston heat & humidity, driving daily, I would seriously consider tinted glass & air conditioning.

Power steering? Pleeeze...

I don't know all the lingo yet... what is a CNG conversion?

Yeah, I'm interested in the AC, but I can't seem to find any reviews on the Cruiser Crp Vintage AC unit, does anyone have one, or know some who bought and installed one?

I had my Vintage Air unit installed on my rig about 7 years ago at Wimberley 4x4 in New Braunfels, TX. It has never failed me and actually works quite well when the top is on...

As for the 1k i would put it towards a H55 & split t-case conversion and all the other small things that add up

Well I found the write ups on the Vintage Air.... seems I was looking right at them and just missed them, (bone head),

in deed ammo will be a good barterable item, I'd say clean drinking water would be a priority item as well. I think there is a book out there called something like "why things are valuable" and ammo ranked in the top 5 of things that will survive inflation and a TEOTWAWKI scenario.

Of course food is high as well, as is any defendable location. good addition -piecemeal-

welder and plasma cutter. Maybe some body panels to replace the rusted panels on my 40. Unless i had the first two, then i would not need the third :) I have power steering on mine, i gotta say it's nice.

Impulse buy.... That's what my wife is afraid of, lol
A welder would be a lot of fun, the local college offers classes in MIG and TIG welding, we are thinking of taking them, it would be a great skill to have
