‘72 FJ40. Leaking power steering pump looking to reseal it if there’s a kit available

I’ve searched and still unsure. I hate to order multiple kits due to not knowing what year this came from. Or reseal and have it leak again.

Here’s a pic

Thanks

either non-US 2F or, or 3F/3FE. The difference in the mounting width. Do you have more background information on the vehicle?

It’s a N.A. spec 72’. I do know 72s didn’t have power steering so I’m guessing it’s from another year or not from a 40 at all. Based on the D in Toyoda, it might be from another market…no clue. Thats why I’m asking.

I got it a couple months ago and trying to pick away at some issues and gather parts for the winter. Enjoying it now before the snow flies here in the NE.

If it is a US spec truck it is almost certainly not a non-US 2F pump. On second look, with the narrow belt I would bet it is off some sort of Toyota car/truck. 3FE pump is availbe new for a decent price and would bolt up to your 1F with the associated bracket, and use the LC belt width and clean up a lot of that, but you would want to swap to a 2F water pump or the very rare double groove 1F pulley

Oh man. I just got done sorting an SC LX450. Man what did I get myself into. Ok sounds like I’ll have to do a lot of reading….or take it to Cruiser Solutions here in NH and have them sort it out.

I do agree the power steering hoses need some attention. Looks like garbage but it does work well just leaky.

The reservoir appears the same as a domestic 2F but pretty sure US market 2F's had the power steering mounted on the other side of the block and the alternator mounted where you're pump is......

Domestic 2F reservoir would have the drain line on the opposite side of the reservoir.

What’s the thread for an fj40 steering box?
16mm or 17mm.

Found a 3F PS pump and picking it up on Monday.

I will be getting some PS hose 3/8 for the return line. Still unsure what to do for the HP hose. I was thinking about Earls HP hose and their -6 ends with these: JIC Adapter Fitting, METRIC Inverted Flare for Toyota Applications - https://www.pscmotorsports.com/parts/jic-adapter-fittings/toyota-specific/sf-metric-inverted-flare-toyota.html

Do I need 17 at the PS pump and a 16 at the steering box?

Here a pic of my PS box

is your box a mini truck box? can you take a pic from the side? If so, feed is M16, return is M17, I stock that PSC fitting as well as the hose/ends, and new 17mm low pressure fittings if you need.

why is there a wire ring terminal on your rag joint?

It's like those little wires they hang from shopping carts to prevent static electricity buildup. ;)

Ok thanks just checked out your website.

I just got the 40 a couple months ago and I’m starting to clean up some wiring Haven’t gotten to that wire on the rag joint.

Do you know the thread specs for the 3F PS pump?

this is the fitting you need for the pressure side of the box and pump. Looks like someone cut and welded the pedastal to mount a 78-85 mini truck box

Thanks Matt.

So I have a mini truck box. New to 40s…. so I’m learning.

Matt have you done any work with Earls HP steering hose before? The LP and HP lines are run right where the tuna can should be over the VC. I’d like to run both PS lines out in front of the grill along the frame.

Do you do custom HP hoses?

Truck came out of Cali in 2013 to the east coast. Someone on this site had to have own/worked on this rig. I’d like to pick that guys brain.

That look more like a moisture trap promoting shaft rust threw failure. You got locomotive horns that need that heavy a ground wire - that blows.

Might want to replace that rag joint. How sloppy is you steering wheel? Doesn't look like there is a bushing or pillow block on the engine firewall side.

You can also ditch that steering stabilizer bracket that is ubolted to the axle.

There’s a few degrees of “float”. I just replaced the dust seal for the steering column. There doesn’t seem to be any room or thread from the dust boot collar bolts to catch anything on the firewall side.

But then again im new to the 40.

Trollhole- you have a pic of the part I’m missing?
