ICON alloy wheels?

There is another Icon thread somewhere here where the guys are making shim rings to handle the distance needed for the fronts. I think one of the guys actually reached out to @BenCC to see if he was interested in making a shim ring or possibly new caps like he did for Methods.

I'll be honest... They were not my cup of tea in the beginning. But I like them now a lot.
Yeah I think it's one of those things you start admiring more as time passes, it builds on ya.

Just ordered a set of the black and gun metal Six Speeds with 285/70/r17 on Monday. Can't wait to put them on. Discount Tire called Icon for me and assured me they had deeper caps for them...we'll see I guess. I can update this when I get them installed. Otherwise I'll probably be doing the PVC thing too lol

That’s me, I sent him a cap. fingers crossed.

I just spoke to Mario over at KingsChariot and what an absolute legend of a guy, I'm so glad I made that call. He confirmed Compressions and I think Rebounds will clear the front hubs without spacers, he reckons they used spacers for Vector 5s. He mentioned using longer screws up front to fit the caps but I don't see a screw application in the pic or am I missing something?

How do I delete this :bang:

Ok - So after two weeks of incorrectly ordered finish and shipping issues with my wheels from Icon, I finally had them installed at Discount Tire today. Below is the before and after - definitely makes my LX look less "Grandpa headed to the country club" and much more "GTFO my way, I'm about to wheel in Luxury". Very happy with the results...

Some things to note:
  • Caps do not fit on the front hubs (I knew this was a chance, even though ICON claimed they had this fixed. They don't). I have access to a nice 3D printer, so I'll probably make a couple spacers and call it good - or leave them off - I don't know
  • New rubber = BFG KO2 285/70/R17; Old rubber = Michellin Defender 275/60/R18
  • Sand Dollar Pearl + Gun Metal Icon Six Speed wheels = OBJECTIVELY the best combo of fit and finish on a 100-series, as you can see.

That looks GREAT, big change! No more mint juleps at the country club for pops! :)

Mate, loving the outcome! Glad you got everything sorted out, I thought it's just me with those shipping gremlins acting up.
My 285 75 17's have been sitting at the shop since last Monday with just 2 of the wheels (same as yours) while they (not Icon, but the parent company to 4WP) lost the trailer which had the remaining 3 of the package plus 600K worth of other parts. So about 1000 phone calls later they finally located the trailer, it had been dropped off at the wrong shipping dock apparently and got sent back to the main distribution center in Compton. Today, they've shipped out a new set from AZ and I've been promised it will be there by Thursday. So here I am driving around with a helmet in addition to a face mask to save myself the embarrassment from the rig looking like this.......

About the spacers, would you mind printing an extra set for buddy up here if you end up doing it? I'll take care of the cost + shipping plus a case of your favorite beer

@AusCal Oh man! That sounds like quite the mess! Good to hear they got it figured out - post some pics when you get yours all set up!

RE: The spacers - absolutely, I'll let you know what I decide. If I do make them, you want 4 to make each cap look the same even though the back wont need it?

Mate, just 2 for the front would be good enough. I'll update here once the wheels go on, fingers crossed!
Cheers :)

Ok - for those interested...I'm printing one of these right now to test fitment. Will try and fit it up (at least to the cap) sometime tomorrow or Thursday.

This will allow you to use longer screws on the back side of the cap if you want to, or just line up the tabs and glue the cap to the top.

So screw, or glue, or some combination of both...

Haven't had a chance to test out yet, but will reply on this thread as soon as I do. Truck looks great @AusCal! Are you enjoying the new wheels and tires?

Looking good! Would you mind posting a few more pics of wheels from different angles? Trying to see the poke and such, and how the tire fits on the rim. Also, you’re running 285/75R17 on the 17 x 8.5 icons with 25mm offset right?
