Man, that is a hell of a water crossing. Driving 50KM to cross that river reminds me of going across Fjords in Norway, if you miss the ferry you drive 100+ KM to get to a point that is only 1/2 mile away.

we check weather forecasts beforehand, but its very unpredictable, on the glacier we had been having very good weather earlier in the day

other makes and models to work, but Toyota are the best =) very reliable,

Landrovers are... in my opinion not very good for travel in the cold, also very uncomfortable
very bad insulation, rubbish heater, and built badly , I've seen doors fall of , windscreen wiper arms fall of people almost freezing in those junks, when they make them left hand drive they get very uncomfortable, you sit almost on the door, the pedals are too far to the left also, very uncomfortable

That's amazing that an FJ80 which is now, what, approaching ~20 years young has the qualities to remain so bulletproof in the most extreme conditions Mnature has to offer. Nice!

It's amazing how tough those trucks are, and an amazing engine also, 1HD-t
it just starts no matter what, and you just have to turn the key and it starts instantly , And fuel economy is also very good

How often do you change the oil and what type do you use? Conventional? Synthetic?

I change it once a year usually, Synthetic oil , it burns a little oil so I keep an eye on it and add as neccesary , and change it completely once a year, my engine is driven more than 400thousand kilometers
and you can imagine how much idle with that , so a little oil consumption isn't that bad :)

My wife and I are visiting Iceland for the first time in August and I'm hoping to rent a Land Cruiser to do some mild "F-Road" exploring; nothing crazy -- just want to ride in style. I came across http://www.icelandcruiser.com which rents 90/100/120 series.

Can anyone recommend a place to rent an 80 or even a 40 or 70?

We're really looking forward to the trip and traveling in a Land Cruiser would make it extra special. We are in Iceland for 10 days and are also looking to do some some overnight hiking and whitewater rafting. If anyone has recommendations for that, please PM me so I don't hijack this thread.
