I think it’s pretty subtle when done.

Yo, @ElJayBird, what do you think of your old truck now?

Finally have it.

Jay, @ElJayBird take a look at what your truck became

Not shown: 1hd-fte, PDI FMIC, PDI Airbox, gturbo red wheel, gturbo +70% injectors. It’s got factory e-lockers now. Tarrox brakes.

Runs on 37x12.50R17 KM3s / Icon wheels, Dobinson’s suspension with MRA shocks, 4” lift. @Delta VS pamhard lift. Will install Delta lower control arms when I can get them.

Also: all you guys talking under hood temps

Turbo makes 32 psi as measured on the @Lutz Auto gauge.

I drove it 60-ish miles today, BWI to western MD. 80mph on 37s.

Could not get the water temp, as measured by the Lutz gauge, over 172F. Probe is between the thermostat and the radiator intake. New fzj80 radiator, OEM fan and clutch.

I think it’s passing a lot more air. It’s literally overcooling now.

Pic is with it idling.

Wow! Turned out amazing! I knew she was going to a good home. Love how the hood turned out.

Great build!

Just to help the many who doubt the advantages of venting the bonnet or hood.

Once a stock 80 gets near to 65 MPH, and definitely at 70 and above the viscous coupling engages the fan. This is simply because the air pressure building up in the engine bay, this prevents air passing freely and the engine heats up, this heat build up is enough to exceed the ability of the cooling system to shed heat, so the fan comes back into play.

I have considered it myself, but simply have not got around to doing it, now with other things going on in my life, bonnet vents are way down the list.

Regards

Dave

@ElJayBird - I notice that the louvers exhaust their heated air right upstream to the cabin fresh air vent intakes.
Have you noticed any effect on your dashboard outside air vent temperature? Warmer?

Jay doesn’t own it anymore. I do.

No effect.

Continuing on the “it’s now overcooling” bit:

I’m driving it back to Texas. Runs down the road 70-80 mph and 170F on the @Lutz Auto scan gauge. Get off the highway and the coolant temp briefly spikes to 180-184F and then cools right back down.

Got 15.8 mpg doing 80-85 mph. The truck never wants for power. Coolest lx450 ever.
