The spacer is needed to prevent the gear from moving on the mainshaft of the tranny, and to keep it aligned with the seal, and counter-gearset.....at least it has been needed on the 420 and 465 plate adapters that I have installed....perhaps others have different expierences..

I'm guessing that the inside rib/case structure on the Orion is thicker in this area than a stock case, and the input gear - does the gear move in-out slightly with the retaining bolt tight?
I wonder if there isn't some spacer/shim thats supposed to be on the backside of the tranny output that is allowing for slightly more space than normal....hhhhmmmm
