I couldn't wait to join the club and after searching desperately every day for the past 3 months and longing for one for the past 7 years... plans to drive to boston, cleveland, and new mexico, i found one right in my backyard of Mt. Vernon, IN. it's a '79, sky blue with a holly carb and header, custom exhaust (was rerouted from the drivers side door to the rear), 4" suspension lift with 36" super swamper radials. the inside is immaculate. absolutel no rust. the floors look perfect, the gauges work (except the odometer), the seats need replacing, but that's it for the interior. the exterior was painted 3 years ago and looks great, there's diamond plating that wraps around on the back of the truck... he says that there wasn't any rust there, he just added it for protection as well as asthetic reasons, since he lives on a gravel road.

the engine runs great, nothing sticks, belts were new, wiring was new, new plugs, new clutch, there weren't any leaks. he said he hasn't had a chance to take it out in 3 months and showed me the mat it sat on in the garage... i would've eaten off of it:-)

the guy belonged to a cruiser club here and was a weekend warrior, but he never took it offroad. he'd drive to the trails, park it and ride with the other guys. he says that they made fun of him for never taking it out, and never taking the top off and stuff, but he said he like it for show.... he "liked to drive it and pull up next to a jeep and watch the expression on their face."

the fenders are chipped and cracked in 1 or 2 places and i can see where it's been bondo'd on one... but that's an easy and fairly inexpensive fix.

the only spot that worries me is on the left rear corner panel just above the tire it's starting to bubble a little bit... no flakes and it's a small area. kind of worries me, but after seeing some of the miricales you guys work on here, i'm not as freaked out as i would've been a couple of months ago.

other than that, the truck is pretty much stock. i also received the original wheels and hubs as well as the original springs if i ever want to go back to a stock cruiser.

oh, i got it all for $6950.

did i do alright? should i feel confident in my purchase?

I was kinda interested in that 40 but the diamond plate kinda scared me away from making the 4hour drive to check it out. I also have a personal problem with painted diamond plate, don't know why. Sounds like you got a nice ride.

Welcome and congrats friend. I saw that one too....CCOT I think. Looked sharp and will look sharp smurfin around. Do not sweat the body stuff unless it is rust.

Welcome. And cant wait to see it

Sounds like a great deal. I evaluated replacing the seats with others and ended up buying a reapolstery kit. They look brand new.

Welcome to the club.

Uh, and to re-iterate:

This Thread is Useless Without Pics.

$6950 is decent. You paid for it, but you'll enjoy it, I'm sure. If you don't hack it up too much, and only fix the small stuff needed, you should have no problem selling it for what you got in it. (I know, I know...never gonna sell it...but still).

Now download some pics.

congrats man,

get some pics up!!!!!

Be sure you take some pics of the diamond plate. I'm thinking about doing that on my 74. I was also thinking about 36" Swampers. Congrats on your new ride.

And now... the pics! It's not perfect body-wise. It runs like a freaking champ, though. After a few months, I hope to have it close to paid off so I can start working on the body. First off I need to replace the fenders since they're the worst. the passenger side has a 2 x 2" spot where it was a bad bondo job. There are some bumps and cracks here and there on both of them... also, it looks like the driver's side is bent down and the turn signal is cracked. After that, I'm just going to save money until I can put a new aluminum tub on it...

Thats a nice rig for the price you got. The fact that it runs like a champ make it a deal. You can buy a lot of rigs like that for that kind of money that run like crap. Did you check the compression?

You can geta compression tester at the parts store fairly cheap. You pull out a plug but in the gauge and crank the engine a few time, don't start it! Write down the reading, put the plug in and move on to the next one.

If its running great, I wouldn't worry about. It's an easy thing to do next tiime while your changing plugs. It lets you know if you have a potential problem with compression lower in one then the other. As you change your plugs over the years, it allows you a quick monitor of the health of your engine.

Its really just information to use shoul something come up. As long as its running great, you don't need to do anything.

looks sweet man.

Ken,

Where'd you buy the upholstery kit? I'll be needing one for my 55:
