How about a trip from clemson to greenville.
I know lots of rigs that this adventure would take at least a month. Or maybe a round trip. Cause I know a piggy in the garage would be in for that.

.......... especially with your project overland build; this is the kind of trip you are building for correct?it seems there is enough general interest in this to warrant moving forward so I will contact the two gentle men that own the guide service that do this run every year and see if they are willing to lend some of their knowledge and I will report back

I'd be interested but would have to lose my job before I went... because I'd definitely lose it IF I went.

just follow my lead steen....... my plan is just to quit my job whatever it maybe at the time of the trip
At your age I'd have done the same thing... actually did many times for much lesser trips

I am obviously interested and willing to do some cool stuff:
- Sponsorships make this viable. If you do it for a charity most companies will meet the investment and give you the time off w/o losing as much vacation, etc.
- My bro has can2mex.com. Since he got spoused I am gonna hijack it.
- One of the ATLFJCs has a family property in northern Idaho. We have an address to ship to, etc.
- I will not drive to Idaho. I am shipping the Cado when I do this and flying in.
- No hotels. I am sleeping in the Cado. If we need a refresh I have over 200k marriott points so no worries there and we can book it for free.
- Idaho...that is a family property...also happens to be a resort. Start the trip in style.

I hear you guys on the sponsor aspect....... but at the same time I think it throws in a lot more hassel to the whole trip; but if it is a make or break for you guys I guess it would be a necessary evil
also I had planned on starting the trip on the southern end in So Cal; just for the practical reason of the trips time frame being may-june it would be better to do the desert sections as early as possible (heat) and the northern sections late (snow melt in passes)...... just my thoughts
as for hotels I agree...... we don't need no stinking hotels; I hope to have my roof top tent by then

Oh how I wish there was Travis........ I am a married man now and within a week will have graduated from college; time for the real world no more adventures
with all seriousness though I kind of abandoned this idea of a border to border trip just because of logistics and the unlikely hood of anyone being able to get the required amount of time off to join me on such a trip.
However I am still planning of taking a 2+month trip out west in the 80 coming up this next summer and atleast attempting to do some of the contenital divide trail in Colorado and in general just some exploring of the west and what it has to offer. Also I hope to make the Rubicon next summer as well.
I would be more than glad to meet up with some UC members and do some extended expedition style offroading like I said I am thinking of the Divide trail trough Colorado... could spend a couple of weeks doing that. see this video:

I would like to get something together that wouldnt require as much time off. I like the continental divide trip, could be done fairly reasonably.

yes it looks like the divide ride through CO would take somewhere from 10-14 days....... ideal would be 10 days as that would allow 4days of travel SC to CO and back. I would think a two week trip would be about the limits for most on vacation time; but that is why I plan on quiting my job to take this trip so I have no restrictions

Count me in in 5 years. Seriously. After living out west, I plan to take a trip like this evey 2-3 years. Only kicker is that my team would never let me have that kind of time off in the near future. Couple that with the young family and I am out for a while. This is a big deal to me though and I will make it happen. I am very excited to see others here in the south that can appreciate all that the west has to offer. Before I lived out there, I didn't give it the credit it deserves.
