Have you been happy with the way the dupli-color has been laying down?

I know at the price you have in it, it is awesome, just wondering if it is good or not?

thx, oh and awesome progress.... although I worry about your lungs.

Hi! great story and you got your work cut out for you. I makes me dread looking in to the rust on the HJ45.... :frown:

Two things, can't you take some really nice shots of the engine that started it all, it's hard to see in the other photos, but it looks really colorfull! I clicked on your profile and it seems you like color:)

Secondly; I saw a PTO in the pic above, it could look like a split case one... You would'nt be interested in parting with it, would you?
I have am older version I would like to maybe trade...
Thanks!

Christian

X2, I am considering the paint shop white for mine since the original cygnus white has been covered with rustoleum white to cover repairs/trail damage. Did you just dump it straight into the gun? what psi are you shooting it at? How much as needed to shoot the whole tub (color and clear)?

It's okay. It's not the best. Better than rustoleum. It sprays like any other auto paint I've used. (which isn't much) I would say yes for the person not looking for a perfect paint job but wants something easy and that can be easily fixed later on.

I'm wearing a respirator.

Take a look here. That should keep you busy for a while.

PTO is early PTO.

I'm addicted to collecting them. I have 3 now and not a single one is on a cruiser. lol.

I open the can.
Stir the paint for about 2 min.
Put filter over gun cup
pour it about half way full
Put cap on
set pressure with trigger squeezed to around 40psi
Spray.

I used a 1.7 tip for the primer.
I used a 1.4 tip for the color and clear.

2 coats of light grey primer
2 coats of color
3 coats of clear

Used a can for every coat just on the tub.

I would think 4-5 cans of each would get a whole cruiser painted.

It's also quick. Maybe 10 min between coats.

Best part is if I scratch it (which I plan on) I can just go to the store and pick up another can. The paint is almost 2 years old currently that I'm using. Has a great shelf life.

OMG!!! That is SO gay!!! :D Couldn't you do the rest of the truck in the same way, It'll be like nothing else out there.
It would be the Full HD, 3D, 7-speaker surround with smellovision version of the late '90's VW Polo Harlekin:

I'm reading now... Too bad about the PTO, thanks for the reply though!

Did you color sand after the color coat?

whats going on the inside? black bedliner? would be sweet if you could tint some to match..

I was just wondering the same thing after looking at the "outside" pictures.

Would love to but I'm out of time and money on this project. I've got 4 days before I take a 6 hr drive in this thing. I have a full plate.

CCOT fenders are on. These were the early ones that fit crappy. Work great for me because I won't cry when I smash them on a tree.

Windshield is on. Screwed the paint up getting it back on. Will need some touch-up. I'm starting to dislike the duplicolor paint.

Bib and hood are on as well as the hood hooks.

Knobs are in. Wiper and Hazzard are lit knobs out of an early Corola. I also re did the cig lighter placements so I could get 2 in and have everything line up.
Lights under the Wide Band Air Fuel Ratio gauge are for Emegency brake, low oil pressure, and check engine light. I'll have to work on changing the name plates later.

Bed liner is in. It's cheap and covers the crappy looking floor.

And best yet was putting the new emblems on. I'll probably swap them out eventually for the metal ones once they come back from the plater.

Lookin' good Marsall. May the force be with you :) I'm dealing w/ last minute maintenance / upgrades myself. I pulled the inspection cover on my tcase last weekend and found both of the hidden bolts were loose; the culprit was stripped threads in the 465 adapter plate. Had to pull it all Mem. day weekend and work w/ the machinist on making some press in steel inserts. Then I started on installing my newly acquired 30spl Longs, and found the housing grind job took a lot longer than anticipated. THEN... I found the "rebuilt" Warn lockouts I bought with the Longs (used package deal kinda' thing) have stripped housings for the dial bolts....whew. When does it all end??? I'm sick of looking at my garage walls, and my wife's sick of having to do EVERYTHING around the house. God bless her for making this possible!

I'll see you next Wed - really want to go for a ride and feel that 2F first hand.

Looking forward to hanging out and riding in a few cruisers myself.

Picked up the mockup stainless steel windshield channels today.

Also got a special delivery from IPOR. 1200 series lumbars. I love dealing with those guys. They got my stuff shipped out asap.

Looks awesome! How come you are starting to dislike the Duplicolor?

While it dries to the touch in about 15 minutes, it stays soft for at least a couple weeks. Made putting things back on harder than it needed to be. If I let it dry for two weeks I probably wouldn't have had that problem.

Paint didn't come out as smooth as I would have liked. I think that had a lot to do with the heat and humidity. I think it was drying too quick to smooth out. Though it's not a showroom cruiser to begin with. I think if I would have thinned it a little it would have come out better.

So my last post was the 3rd. In the pics above show what I had left to do in 3 days with one of those days being a full 8hrs at work. I really had only one full day to finish so taking pics was last of my concern.

Friday night I got the tailgate on and fixed the wiring. Ended up screwing up thinking the Corolla switches would be plug and play. Ended up going back to what I thought were my original switches only to find out they were not. I had taken all the pins out of the plugs and made them work. Though.

Got the gas tank in and hooked up.
Got drivers side seat in. It turned out to be harder to do than it should have. I ended up making my own mounts when I could have just used the original rear mounts with just a piece of angle iron.

Saturday I got most of the essential parts in and got it to a driving state. I ended up putting the old roll bar back in as there was no way I was going to be able to weld the MetalTech cage in. AT this point I was also packing for GSMTR and getting all the raffle prizes together.

The seats rock.

The tranny tunnel was something I had wanted to do from the beginning. How I managed to get it done in about an hr is beyond me.

2010-167-13-6-20-0-IMG00023-20100605-1951.jpg

Sunday I woke up and spent basically the whole day getting the soft top and the spare tire carrier on. What a pain. Once the bows were on Jim's (OCDbeetle) top went on perfectly. Cannot say enough about it.

So at 5 I left for a 6 hr drive to Tn. with a trailer full of crap and a cruiser full of stuff. Took this pic of me a loaded up. Drove perfectly which is what it should have considering I hadn't really done anything to the drive train except put in the aluminum radiator.

The next day I proceeded to take it out on the circle track at GSMTR and cover the inside and outside in mud and ruin my new paint job. But it was worth every minute.

This was me starting at about the 10 min mark. And yes it doesn't look that fast but it was and considering I forgot to put it in 4wheel drive I thought I did pretty good.

GSMTR 2010 06/11/10 01:13PM, GSMTR 2010 06/11/10 01:13PM trollhole on USTREAM. Sports

Oh and an action shot. Yep thats the passenger seat belt that hadn't been fully installed yet ruining my new paint.
