Hurricane season is getting started early this year do you have your generators gassed up, batteries stashed and charged, duct tape ready, plywood handy and some water to drink?

Looks like we have our first one of the season in the Pacific. Arlene

I much prefer hurricane season living here in SC. I lived in Key West from 95-05 and had my fair share of hurricane experiences. The worst left me without power for 6 days, hooked the house up to the generator and had at least the fridge and some fans running during that time.

Damage from that hurricane, Georges, was extensive. My neighbor and I shared a drive and we lived right on the gulf basically in the jungle. We filled 3 thirty yard dumpsters supplied by the county with just the debris that filled up our drive. Two days with chain saws and ATVs dragging it all out to the street. Hurricanes creat a lot of work.

Go away hurricanes! Looks like I'm second on the list of names though.

i hope they bring rain to the upstate SC area.

we NEED the rain!!!

hoping to make it to the keys this winter....long after hurricane season

Jim it looks like you may be moving some boats.

I flew out to Great Harbor Cay in the Berry Islands this morning. Brought a 34' Venture center console back to Miami solo today. The owner of this boat also owns the yacht from the music video "I'm on a boat, mother f@%er, on a boat!" Saw lots of boats coming this way when flying out. Seas couldn't be calmer. It was a good ride....

You have the life!

A 34' Venture is probably one of the few CC I would take a chance to make that kind of cross. What was the distance and how much fuel did those triple screws, I assume, burned?

Jeremy

It was 130 nautical miles (150 statute). She only had twins, burned about 100 gallons, but I throttled her back. Took a 70' Neptunus to Chicago in May and my fuel bill was $35K. Took a 75' Hatteras to Chicago the long way in 2009 and that fuel bill was $61K.

It is a fun job, thanks.

PS: Thanks for posting that video. I laugh my ass off every time I watch it.

TS Irene is now out there. Supposed to be here just before I go back to the Islands.

UPDATE: 8/22 Now meeting the boat in Key Biscayne this afternoon. Leave for Key West tonight. Fly back home to possible board-up tomorrow....

We're watching closely...Hope it skirts the coast...Look out outer banks!!

Hopefully the islands drain some strength over the next few days.

Stay safe, Jim. Glad I'm not in Walker's this week chasing spiny tails!!

Go east and fizzle out (but spare Bermuda)!!
