The M416 is a much better fit for a 40, dry weight on that is 575lbs I believe. At 1,300lbs, your trailer may not weigh much given it's size but your 40 won't like towing it loaded with gear. I think my M416 is about 1,200lbs-1,500lbs fully loaded and sometimes it's a struggle, even with a V8
Do you have a tent top on that thing? Wanted to fit a bed for the wife so she will go camping. If not she is staying home(not all that bad but not ideal)
A few years ago I wanted a 2 inch receiver hitch on the rear crossmember on my 40. I cut up a receiver hitch from the back of a domestic pick up, welded a 4-bolt flange onto it and then made a extension bracket to reach to the next crossmember forward on the 40 frame. I hauled multiple loads of superheavy firewood and never had any flex issues.

Yes, it's the largest RTT that CVT sells and it fits the M416 very good. It's on a custom rack with gas piston shocks so I can raise the platform about 26" or so. The photo obviously shows the rack/tent down and closed for travel. Use of the gas shocks mean I'm not struggling to set it up (they do all the pushing/lifting) and it gets the bottom of the tent set to roughly 6' off the ground.
It's very comfortable and my wife loves it. We've camped in it for weeks straight, I'd never go back to ground camping now.
Ehhh, sort of. When I built it, I was posting on a local 4WD forum which is now defunct. I should/would do a thread here on MUD if there was enough interest. I've towed that trailer well over 12,000 miles so far in its current configuration and it's been great for the most part.
They are well built, very solid, durable, capable of soaking up a ton of abuse. We have been known to put them in some pretty crazy places, often full of rock, water, tools, etc. The bigger rigs do well with them, the jeeps in our group wont touch them, likely a good idea. They are a bit wide, but don't turn turtle like the M416s that we have abused. Depending on what you are doing and load (light), would likely work fine on a well setup FJ40.
