Took a front wheel off to see what's going on under there.
The records for the truck show that the front rotors were changed 20K ago at a Toyota dealer.

What surprised me is that I don't see any "Toyota" stamp on the rotor. In fact, there is no marking at all visible with the wheel off. Should there be something if it is a true OEM? And don't these things usually showl the minimum thickness allowable as well?

Thickness is 32mm outside to outside surfaces. (Pads are about 7mm.) That still good enough?

Btw, pads have a blue base plate. That likely to be OEM?
thanks
Eric

I assume you are referring to the 80 series, I just went and looked at my new OEM rotors sitting in the garage waiting for install. There are no markings on the outboard surface, the only markings are on the inboard (back), you would have to remove them from the LC to see, they say "MIN. TH. 30MM" and there is a number "5", that's it for markings. FSM says standard rotor thickness is 32mm, minimum is 30mm. The OEM pads I have, have a dark green "base plate", FSM says 9.5mm is standard pad thickness, 4.0mm is minimum pad thickness.

80 series pads have a green base, 100 series have a brown base.

If the rotors aren't warped, they are fine even if not OEM. Non-OEM rotors tend to warp and wear faster, though, from what has been said.

Hi Ben, thanks for checking.
Wonder how useful it is to stamp the thickness on the rotor if you can't see it, eh...? :P
Yes, I meant 80. Eh, I won't have any time to work on the 100, I can tell already, what with keeping my 80 baby up to snuff... Guess my wife will have to go to the dealer... :P :P
Seems like I'm OK with the front rotors. Don't feel any vibration and plenty of thickness.
Thanks, Shocker, too. Looks like my pads are not original then.

The rear rotors, though, appear to be very worn. Looks like I only have 17mm and I can tell there is a pronounced lip at the edge. Pads have only 1 or 2mm left! Yikes! That's going to have to be done soon.

Well, I guess that will be something else to learn about...

Anybody knows what the minimum rotor thickness should be on a rear rotor for a '97?
thanks
Eric

94 rear disc (I think it should be the same) 18mm standard, 16mm minimum, pads should be 10mm standard, 1mm minimum.

The rear rotors are min at 16 mm. As for the blue pads this can be stock. You really need to look at the padback and see what it says. It will have the Teig stamp and the NBK stamp. these are orginal. the blue could be the 97 long life pads, where the brown are the previous years, softer not as long wearing. later robbie
