Take no prisoners!!

I use these universal joint sockets a lot for stuff like that.
Pretty sure I've had thermostats housing out without too much hassle, with exhaust shield in place

Keep the skin on your knuckles intact in the future.

I also have taken the exhaust shields off, and bolts are now generously coated in anti-sieze paste.
30 seconds would have that shield off next time its in the way.

Once I pulled off the thermostat housing neck I found a torn rubber cap inside. ???? What sort of clownage allowed this to happen? That's been rectified and leads me to wonder if the cap impeded water flowing leading to overheating and the head gasket blowing.

One of the guys at OVER THE MOUNTAIN CRUISERS - https://otmcruisers.com/ recognized the rubber cap as something that would have been in lower radiator pipe, something to cap the pipe of a new radiator to keep the innards clean until the radiator was installed. Obviously whoever did the installation was inattentive.

Water bypass and PHH installed. New intake gasket hung with tab to the rear and lower intake installed. Not that bad of a job to install the lower intake.

Thought I was making good progress after having pulled the wiring harness back through the intake. But no, it should be between the 5 & 6 runners.

Had to pull the fuel rail to re-reoute the wiring harness. Haven't been this deep into a 1FZ in about 3 years so there are things that I've forgotten. Toyota's logical layout of the engine hard parts and wiring are such that if you are having difficulty reassembling, stop, step back, and take another look. Often I find that I'm doing it wrong and once I know that and see how it should fit pieces almost fall together.

The nut and bolt at the rear of the upper intake manifold are tricky as are a couple of the vac lines and hoses that need to be connected under the throttle body.

Intake manifold and throttle body back together and the half a$$ stuff that Nomad Cruisers threw on it have been corrected.

I need to find a 5/8" piece of heater hose with a 90 bend for the PHH to heater valve.
