This is truly a sad day in my life. I may have to sell my '85 FJ60. I haven't decided for sure, but have to do the research. I got her from CA--so no body rust. Clean, clean, clean--paint is in good shape, body has no rust, only a couple minor dings. Interior is also in good shape--small crack on dash and a souple other minor imperfections on seat and paneling, but overall very clean. She's been in CO since Oct. Only 157,000 orig miles. I have done some necessary maintenance items including overhaul of the A/C system, repaired oil leaks, replaced power steering pump, replaced smog pump, new 2.5" OME lift, new muffler and a couple other minor repairs.

I need to know how much I could get for her. My thought is just under $10,000, but I look to the expertise within for assistance.

THANKS!

I've seen several sellers asking in the 10k range, but I don't think I've ever seen one sell for that much. $8k seems to be top dollar in the SE, but it could be different in CO. I don't pay really close attention to the 60 market, so I could be wrong.

Dang 10k seems high. I paid 2500 for mine, it was good running shape, AZ car, no dents, paint had lost in shine but still good. 160k on the clock, but no new suspenion or muffler on it.

I paid 3500 for mine coming up on 2 years ago... She Was bone stock and had some 33's on stock wheels painted black.
I personally would never pay 10k for a stock FJ60....

I'm not sure you will get 10k for it, but it's worth a try. I picked up my 86 for 4K, OME suspension, new Muds, nice winch, front and rear steel bumpers, H55 tranny. The body has some rust and a few dents, so I figure someone would pay a good bit more for a cancer free rig. 7 or 8K might be more realistic. Either way, best of luck with the sale.

x2 for less than 10k. Start at 8 & see where it goes. Price of gas is killing the used SUV market.

you might try putting it on SOR's classifieds or ebay.

My opinion: If you want to get over say, $4k for your rig, you will have to SELL it. By that I mean research where people get the most for them and sell it there. Look at Hemmings Motors for example. Write up ads that create an EXPERIENCE for potential buyers, something that after they read your ad makes them WANT to own a piece of the history, uniqueness, durability, prestige and of course, the lifestyle your truck will give them!

My .02 and while I have never been successful at the above, it's still possible.

Rick

I don't see you getting over $5k for your rig. $10k is unrealistic unless it is absolutely pristine and 100,000 miles younger. Sorry, but you picked a bad time to sell.

edit. I have the same miles and my family is the original owner. I have all receipts, including the original from the dealer. She has OME suspension, SROR sliders, arb bumper, and updated interior. The overall condition is good. I would be surprised if I got $5k right now for my rig.

About 1/2 of what you paid up front

and nuthin' for aftermarket doodads you added.

That's the hard truth right now. Take a look at my recent FJ62 auction eBay Motors: Toyota : Land Cruiser (item 330243201821 end time Jun-16-08 17:18:49 PDT)

I bought that FJ62 on ebay from CO in 9/05 & if I only count the $1K fender replacement, I was in for $8K. Bidders from TX to Canada.

Now is the time to score a great LC if gas $ is no constraint on your budget. My loss = discount I got from Lexus dealer on LX450 in 4/08.

A clean looking 97 LX w/116K was listed on Autotrader by an IA Lexus dealer for $7900 2 weeks ago.

definatley a great time to be a "buyer" , lots of big suv's for sale for cheap , i just bought my fj62 for $1500 , fully loaded , some rust but mechanicaly decent .

i highly doubt i could even give it away the p.o. had it on craiglist for months @2500 ,then @ 2000 , i called him every week or so and he finally let me have it for $1500 , he told me in the months he had it for sale i was the only person to call him .

I just bought a rough 62 for $2k and if I was going to shell out above 6k I would have invested in a fully locked 80 series. No way I would pay close to 10k for a 60. Your rig is probably worth it but you would need a die hard 60 person to get close.

Wow, that is amazing the prices that 60 are getting now. I bought my 60 for 3400. But the motor was rebuilt at least the mechanic that worked on it says it was, new clutch, new altenator, new radiator, the seats were redone and crudy hand roller paint job. The tail gate was rusted though. After I got it home and started working on it, i found rust in the a piller and underneath the window, and some perferation around the quarter panels. And some serious rust in the both front doors. The frame is still good, just surface rust on it. It has new stock size michellans. Stops on a dime, idles high and now I am finding several landcruisers with alot less miles and no rust anywhere for around 3k or less. I love the fj60 but man, It can be depressing when I look at mine and go nuts, but It is still mine and one fj60 in the driveway is better than a dozen cheap ones on the street that are not mine. Oh it also has 251k on the clock. I am slowing working on it, I just want it to last 5 years or so and I would be very thankful.
