I removed mine while I was having body mounts re-built. I had to jack the body up a couple of inches. That crossmember causes lots of trouble. Let us know if it can be done without lifting the body.

I've done it with the body attached to the frame, but defintely needed to take off the rear drive shaft...

I've dropped the rear driveshaft, the two hold straps and the skid plate...it's hung up on a bent to hell exhaust pipe hanger...I need to get ajack unde rit, and start prying etc to get it to drop....

It's a tight fit alright. You half way there. I also remember using two jack stands and located them on the frame in front of the rear tires to get more space. It's a little presuading but not much. I think there was a thread a couple years back.

You are underneath the truck trying to get the tank out? That calls for a WTF!
The tank is under the passenger seat INSIDE the cab. depending on what year you may need to remove the cover after you remove the seat and there are two straps holding the tank in. It is a 1 banana job at best.

Lol. Gonna be a lot of flaming on that one.:D

I ended up getting it to drop a few inches, enough that I could undo the fuel level sender pull it, and snake the new one in....

Heaven help me if I ever have to get the whole thing down...I think I'd sawzall it in half....
