Funny Mike brings up the sprayer - I have one of those metal canister sprayers from Zodi - along with the propane burner. You set the can on top heat the water in less than 10 min - pump pump pump - you are in a nice shower. The issue I have is carrying the can and all the stuff to make it work.

I am also in the group buy and look forward to the Helton installed heater/shower - i went for the heater which will go as high as the engine water. The other shower units ( like deckers) heat approx. 40 degrees hotter than the water fed to it.
 so no more super cooker for paella? :frown:

:D

I'm picking up one of the heat exchanger kits too.

2" copper for $90? I hope you're kidding.

Or, take the tranny lines off of the radiator, buy a "real" cooler and use that instead. Then use the tranny ports on the radiator to heat your shower water.

What is the cost of this unit from Kurt?

Shower? Who needs a shower?

;)

Actually, here in AZ, all I do is set a bucket out in the sun a while, hang it in a tree (if any), and tip it over...

That's why he buys his deoderant at Costco...in bulk

Thanks...good writeup...maybe when/if I do this all over again :D

After looking at this wirte up, http://www.yankeetoys.org/black900rr/shower/Shower.html, and looking at this 1/2 tonne coaxial heat x changer ~$55 HERE , why couldn't you take a refrigerator line and coil it similar to the heat x changer. This as opposed to cutting and sweeting the line as in Mike's write up.

Hey that tranny cooler idea will work perfect for me :) . I put a 3b/h55f into my 88 fj62 and don't need that tranny cooler any more...I could set it up so it is thermo controlled so after a day on the road I will have a say a 20 gal. water tank full of nice hot water :bounce2: :bounce2:

On Board Shower

Hello, I made my own on Board Shower. Purchased a Dayton Tube and Shell Heat Exchanger and plumed it with some Ball Valves to control water flow and a Temp. Guage.
I used a 2.8 GPM Shurflo pump and some misc. connections, relay. The whole thing installed was about $100.00. The heat exchager is used, the pump is new. The heat exchantger has Brass Tubes and a cast shell, so the heated water runs thru the shell and the shower water thru the tubes. heat transfer is very good.

It is much better than the purchased units I saw or could afford, it is really not that hard to build .

Already burnt one of these up earlier this fall. You can not...repeat can not...stop the water once you get the burner fired up. So it wastes more water #1; if someone isn't paying attention to the water level in the tank/reservoir or making sure the pump didn't accidentally get pulled up higher than the water level, etc., you'll toast the unit...definitely not 'fool' proof nor easy to use real world...but you may not be as big a fool as me :D

I have that Coleman water heater Mangler posted above.

It is a little big but it works very well. My wife loves it because it's basically like having a kitchen faucet in the outdoors... plus it's capable of producing very hot water.

A local store had them on clearance for $69. I bought the only two they had. :)
