Hood shakes at highway speeds. Is there a way to adjust hood latch down? (1 Viewer)

So, the hood shakes at highway speed. I used to have a Honda that did this and I simply adjusted the latch down to tighten it up. By the looks of it I am not sure this is possible with the 100 Series.

I did twist those rubber stops out a little bit to tighten it up but now the hood sits up about the fender line and doesn't look appealing at all.

I've been wondering about that myself. Hopefully someone has a good answer

I tried searching here and googling too, no luck.

If it's not adjustable (IIRC it isn't per an older thread regarding the same issue), just put a small tack weld on the hook or loop where the two meet. Make it bigger or sand it down for fine adjustment. Or you can do it the hard way and unbolt the latch assembly, weld up all the holes and remove any captured/welded nuts, close the hood and relocate the latch assembly, drill new holes and bolt it up.

There are some rubber/plastic bumpers that can be adjusted to take up the slack. Here's one older thread on the subject, with some alternative solutions:

Adjusting hood

There is enough 'thread' on the rubber stops that you can adjust to the correct depth. Too little and your hood still wobbles, too much and your hood will sit high. But there's a sweet spot.

Mine was wrecked on the left fender side and the body shop did a bad job, it’s fluffing at hwy speeds. I haven’t found a solution for it, might have to get hood pins like the Hondas days. All I know is fluffing hood acts as a sail and kills the mpg

One of the simplest "fixes" with the biggest "gains" for me. Also, one that made me feel like an idiot... because it was so simple and I waited way to long to fix it. My hood would flutter at speeds over 50mph. It was hard to ignore... mile after mile... after mile.

Adjusting those little bumpers brought my hood up but not above the fenders.

He already adjusted those rubber bumpers guys, try reading the post for once.

I also adjusted mine, and it raised the hood up, but it still shakes at speed too. Old threads said to verify the rubber strip that goes along the front edge of hood is still present, as well (mine is there).
I'm looking for real solutions, too. I'm not ready to bust out the welder yet, it's not that big of a problem.

I have never heard the term fluffing used in this context

If hood latch adjustment doesn’t do it, your latch probably needs to be replaced.

Take a deep breath. Settle down. Don't be a *$#&. You'll get a lot further in life.

Well, its the truth man. There are several posts that just say to adjust the rubber bumpers, and several old threads that just says that. Repeating the same thing over and over gets us nowhere further at all, man. Neither does pointless condescension like your own.

Thanks to DirtDawg and jLB though for taking things the right direction to the adjustment procedure that involves the latch. I hadn't dug through my FSM yet, and haven't gotten a good copy thats well indexed. Not sure if I'm ready to pay for a printed copy.

Also, I'd check that the foam strip between the radiator and the radiator support is there, if your radiator has been replaced.. If it is not, I'd definitely think that some air is going to be driven under the hood from that. I did not replace or move the foam when I did mine, been thinking that I need to put something there. I'm lifted with very little rake and a front bumper, so I get a bit of 'beer canning' around trucks and such.
