One other note.. depending upon how far forward your lights toward the front of the truck.. you get nasty glare of the windshield. This is actually worse than my hood glare. Keeping my windshield clean is absolute must in this scenario. There's nothing else you can really do.

Interesting, just checked out their site. Doesnt look like a big deal like the above people said. Just 3m film square over the hood. I'll check with my decal guy today and see what they charge.

X2 thats what I did on my old one :)

I used auto trim paint, had my paint buddy come over and sand/paint it.

Man, I was trying to find a picture of your truck Cory. Thanks for posting it.

Most that I have seen (on 80's) are painted and are like Cory's and FJBen's and cover the entire center of the hood. I'm short so I can't see the entire hood anyway, but mainly as a "look" think I plan on doing one more like my photoshop that doesn't go all the way to the front.

i think the look is better when its the full center strip ;p

I had originally wanted to go with vinyl but to have it installed and trimmed up nice was more $$ than I was willing to pay. The other down side with certain vinyls is that they fade, a few shops I talked to said the flat black wouldn't last a year.

Ditto FJBen and Cory. I just picked up a Qt of flat black Rustoleum, masked the center section of the hood ran a DA w/ 220 over it and rolled it on with a small foam roller. IIRC it took me under an hour from prep to finish then rolled it outside to bake in the sun. Probably one of the cheapest/best changes if you deal with a lot of sun and especially if you're tall.

It's been on for quite some time and my wife just commented on it on our way up to the BHCC driving into the late day sun across Nebraska. She said it was great and apologized for busting my balls about doing it.

Here's a recent shot from the Black Hills

I talked to my buddy, he said it is very doable, which design does everyone want? just the center raised portion, whole hood? he could even put words, such as club names, etc (with club permission of course) .. From what he said the price is not bad at all and would more than likely be inline with the Viggs price.. let me know if you want him to go ahead with it

I'm all for it if he can do it for what Viggs quoted me. They told me $45 for the vinyl + about $15 shipping. So if he can do it for $60 shipped, I'm in.

What type of vinyl is he using?

I'd be interested in one that is about 2/3 the center section. But if it's easier for him to just do the whole center section I'll just cut it down to the length i want.

He said that it would be 5mil total, with 2 layers, and that he could definately do that price, maybe less.

shoot him an email with any questions, he has an FJ80 sitting in the driveway he can use to get the deminsions so it shouldn't take him too long and he would be happy to do it..

I just got a quote from my guy that i used and it was pretty high.

He wants $90 for the vinyl, supposedly some 10 year pro-grade high performance stuff that they use on wrapping commercial trucks and $75 to put it on the hood (cause i know it would end up screwed up if i did it!). It would be the entire center section from front to back. It would be $30 cheaper if i didnt want to do the entire center section. He has to step up to the next sheet size which is 48".

Don't know if it's worth it. I'll post up if i do it.

Save the dough and paint it yourself. You'll like it so much you won't care that it's semi permanent. Plus think of the savings if you ever have to fix the vinyl and/or replace it. IIRC I have ~$12 into it.

Another just for good measure. Not driving into the sun but it's a good drivers eye view.

Real nice Dave!

From my view the blackout hood pulled the front bumper, INTI, ARB side thing, black window trim and the two tone together in harmony or something.

OT: Where did you get your awning? Thanks...

You can totally tell a difference in the flat black over the rest of the hood.

Very nice, did it help with your hella 500 lights to avoid any glare?

Adam,
Call "Regional Supply" off 33rd south. They should have the vinyl in all sorts of widths. I know I've seen some 40"+ stuff in there. I thought about doing my 93, but my 3 plotters are all 30" machines and I think it needed to be wider. I've been so swamped with work, a new baby boy and my recent Alaska trip. did I ever get back to you on the funky toyota color job you were contemplating? I generally buy oracal 651 which is a 6yr, but you could go with a 751 or an 851 which have 8 and 10 yr durability.
