Has anyone tried throwing HID headlights on their fj60 or fj62? Wondering if it was possible and if so were I could find some.

I have some on my 60. You will need to purchase a conversion headlight housing and then buy an HID kit for it. Although the bulb or the headlight housing needs to have some sort of shield/ aiming device. Otherwise they will essentially be spot beams and you'll blind everyone.

I have "Roundeyes" headlights. Really nice. I never tried them with the normal headlight bulb but I suspect that they would be plenty bright. I had HIDs and needed to get a housing with a light shield. That way I can use the HIDs and not blind everyone.

They can be purchased on eBay, Amazon, etc. Just have to get the right bulb type. In my case it is an H4

Is that the style of bulb that fits in the round eyes correct? Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

Yes sir.

Factory wiring to put in Roundeyes. Plugs are H4 in the factory harness.

any chance you have a pic to see how it's your light cut ..

I've got hids in mine, twin headlight, outers are H4 hi/lo, inners are h3 spot lights, throw a tight long bright beam. I've got the inners on a separate switch.

I have tried a bunch of different globes, and I find I get the best results if the globes have a little shield installed on them, as can be seen in this picture. With the shields, I get a nice cut off, without them, light bleed all over the place.

Tapage, I will get one for you tonight at some point. I just re-aimed them because they were REALLY low. Kinda dumb of me to never have thought about it. My Dad was the one that suggested it. I never noticed because all of Houston is lit up. It's the little things that count!

Pictures ain't gonna be the best because I don't have a flat wall to aim against. Parking garage and other places around my apartment lol

I have done it on my 62. I bought new housings and then the hid kit. I like it they work well

I'm doing this now - converting my 62 to rounds with HID. This thread helped me out, thanks. I'm learning as I go, so I'll post up some results when I get there. Thanks.

H4ID?

Even just normal H4 lenses and bulbs will be a helluva lot better than the standard halogens. I swapped my round headlights to a E4 offroad (not DOT certed) and put higher wattage in there, and upgraded the wire harness to relays off of the battery. They were Bosch, and got them from a local 4x4 shop, price wasn't bad, and they were *glass*. Found the harness from someone MUD, and it was plug and play.

MUCH better. I can only imagine that HID would be a step above that, but right now too lazy to do it, other things first.

Here are the pictures I said I would take a few days ago. Roundeyes headlights with a 35W H4 hi/lo 6000K HID set-up.

My point and shoot Sony camera took these while on a night setting. Approximately 25 feet away from a "wall" about 40 inches tall.

First photo is from inside the cab

Second photo is with the camera resting on the center of my ARB top hoop

Third photo is just so you can see the way it sorta looks

Sorry it took me so long to post these. Been really busy with work and school.

I think the cut-off is good enough. I haven't gotten flashed with these. Also I think the cut-off would be better with the stock type bulb they come with. The HID sticks into the housing a little more, a housing designed for a normal bulb. I think that is what gives my beams a slight "U" shape

Your probably blinding more people than you think. There isn't really any cutoff with that setup. The light beam looks like its going halfway up 7 or 8 feet up the brick building behind the wall.

X2 .. this it's what you expect from HID clear and nice light pattern ..

Lol at those cut-off pictures. What kind of car is that from? Something with projectors I'm sure. Not comparable to a bulb in a housing.

My headlights are no brighter than any Cadillac Escalade or any lifted truck around here. The stray light may get in other drivers vision, but it is not blinding. Let's see the light pattern of a stock headlight on a wall. Oh wait... You can't. And if you could. Mine would be better.

EDIT

Please see post #17, I did not intend to be rude with these words.

lol at the cutoff? Your headlights have no cutoff. You can very easily add projectors to your 60 and not sound like a self absorbed prick. The facts are you are blinding people, your headlights are illegal, and yes, your headlights are no brighter than a Escalade. However, they have D2R reflectors that ARE designed for HID's, unlike your 30 year old headlights. There are more lighting experts on this board than you think. Maybe something to consider before you fire off blind comments regarding other peoples opinions, when yours is skewed heavily. Your beam pattern probably ranks in my top 5 HID fails ever.

How did you think new age technology would agree with 30 year old technology? Does putting jet fuel in your 60 make it as fast as that Escalade?

I don't know why my comments were taken the wrong way when I was the one being insulted.

No hard feelings guys. I apologize for any rude comments, I was just intending to explain my set-up.

Here in Texas headlight regulations are not enforced, if at all. Before I added the Roundeyes my headlights were definitely too bright. Spot beams essentially. My current set-up (illegal as it is) is a little safer than most HID headlights I see.

Again I'm sorry fellas

If those are the ones I think they are. Look closer. It's a housing with like a little round glass inside so you can "think they are a projector". They are horrible.

These are what I'm talking. The picture you posted wasn't the clearest for my phone. If you look close you can see the metal tabs that hold the lens in. But the housings are pretty good if you want to redo the internals and put actual projector assemblies in there. ;)
