Help with 1 ton axle choice for fzj80 build

the 4340 35 spline yukon shafts got to my door the day after I placed the order. I have been waiting 2 months on superior or alloy shafts which are both still backordered at least a month. The yukons were not my first choice but randys ring and pinion sure offered a great service on this deal at a great price.

Note to all-NEVER BUY PARTS FROM 4 WHEEL PARTS. WHAT A JOKE. they sent me 3 wrong arbs. I had to finally tell them myself the correct part numbers.

I removed the steering box today and will attempt to port it myself tom. If I run into problems I will ship it to pse and have them do it

Hydraulic Assist Tech

I think I will use the 1.5x8" trailgear job as I can go to their warehouse in person to take stuff back.
Trail-Gear Inc > Ram Steering Kit

Range rovers don't flex for crap unless they are heavily modded..

A true three link rear will perform much better than a Dual radius arm setup in the rear.

A. 2 Y links won't flex for crap without eating up whatever bushings you are using.

2. as the suspension lifts when climbing your AS will go to infinity.. And 2 things will most likely happen. The rear end will walk under the truck or the truck will bounce like a madman...

Benders triangular upper (similar to a wishbone but only half) will works just fine. As long as it is built correctly.

mace you took away my warm fuzzy feeling.

If one were to procure a realy good rubber bushing such as the large Rubicon bushings could things be decent? Cause thats what I'm doing. My builder is tigging a set of 4 rubicon rubber bushes to 1 1/4 shanks so I can change them out easily.

expound more on the as bouncing/walking thing as it relates to the radius arms if you would. i know little of antisquat etc. (However if you have a vaginal discharge or hypertension, diabetes etc I can do wonders)

Port went well. it was so easy I wouldn't call it hardcore. put it in the general 80's tech. https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/212244-80-series-steering-box-porting-hydro-assist.html

What Mace said is what I was trying to get across in my earlier post. In short you would probably be better off with leaf springs in back then radius arms, unless you build it as I described earlier.

Antisquat is the habit of the truck to "lift" under acceleration.

As it increases, the truck lifts more. So what can happen is that instead of the truck moving forward, the axle will lift the truck up and move forward.

Or, you will get a rebound effect and the truck will bounce.

Also, if you stress bushings you will kill them sooner. A Radius arm suspension needs slop somewhere to flex reasonably (Look up a wristed arm system). If not, the suspension binds quickly and will limit travel.

misalignment will certainly be severe for the axle bushes (2 per y) and this worries me. and the fact that my arms are 4' long will will only slightly offset the ammount of misalignment. wrised arms are not an option. I dont like the idea of a single "Y" either as it just seems too weak.

the new JK has a front and rear radius arm long arm kit. I have seen only a single aricle on the topic in 4 wheeler or petersons. I wish there was more

length of the arms will not matter.

The rotation of the axle during articualtion is the problem on the bushings..

how much lift are you expecting to need???

I am going to cut all I can to limit myself to 4" of lift. I have 4" j rear springs and 4" slee fronts now and plan on running them. I want to avoid going higher.

my front is 3 link and will do more work than the rear with this radius set up. which is opposite of the factory suspension which is stiff as hell in front and cush in rear

I should be out building but the fab shop hasn't finished my front axle..promised me by saturday....Even if they were done I dont know how I am going to move these heavy axles around for the build as I have only 1 local friend who knows anything of wrenches and is willing to get dirty (thanks dan). I baught a protools hd bender and notcher last week that is free to use if somone wants to help me....

so where is local?

Personaly, I would make the links as long as humanly possible. You can get decent articulation out of an 80 series with 4" of lift tho.. It would be a compromise..

I would love to come up and help ya, but I have enough troubles getting bob, my 40 and a 63 ragtop bug on the road lol

:D
