My truck is burning about a quart of oil a week. No leaks @ all. Can anyone tell me why truck is burning so much oil. It a 93 LC with about 240,000 mi on it. Do anyone have any ideas what's going on with my truck.

Crank case ventilation system?

Collapsed oil rings?

10 - 30w mobile 1 syn. & no leaks @ all. Dan is this a common problem with a LC with this many miles. Also how long would it take to make a repair like this.

Mobil 1 10w-30 is a very thin 30 weight oil. Try the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w-40 (basically repackaged Delvac 1) and see how that work. I would recommend the Mobil 1 0w-40, but for people that have consumption problems, it seems to burn more. Finally, some people have had good luck with lowering comsupmtion by using Shell Rotella T 5w-40 Synthetic, available from your local Walmart for $12.88 per gallon.

recently took the advice of some board members on here and filled up with 15w40.....took a 4 hr round trip over the weekend and ran really smooth

If you have not replaced the PCV I would start there. you may also want to have a compression test done to see what is going on, or skip straight to a cylinder test depending on the equipment you or your shop has. Depending on out come of test, tells how long the repair is or costs. later robbie

Just remember that you shouldn't run the 15w-40 in temps below 40f.

Anybody ever seen Chevron Delo 10W-30 on the shelf? I can't find it anywhere's and winter (40f and below) is a coming.

Thanks,

thanks for the infor everyone. i guess i start by using 40 weight & see what happens after that point.

If you are running mineral oil and using 15w-40 for summer, and a lighter weight for winter use (below 40F) I would recommend that you use a 5w-30 oil in the winter. It will provide faster flow on startup and thicken less at lower temperatures. If you are regularly starting the vehicle in below 0f weather, I would suggest that you consider runing a 0w-30, 5w-30, 0w-40, or 5w-40 synthetic oil. One of the nice benifits of a synthetic is the ability to run the same oil year round, regardless of climate. Also, because you can run it 7500-10,000 miles in the LC with no problems, no climbing under the truck to change it in the middle of winter.

Also, just a note, that for trucks operated in cold weather, one of the benifits of Synthetic ATF is it will thicken less and provide more consistant shifts in cold weather (less slamming from gear to gear during warm up). Also synthetic diff fluids will climb up the gears and into the bearings faster than their mineral counterparts when it is cold.

Look at my sig line I'm in the same boat as you.

I posted almost the exact same report ~ 3 weeks ago.

Summary in 80 -100 degree Texas heat,

Any synth < 15 -50 = bad - burns too much

Shell Rotella 15 - 40 = good - 1/2 qt every 3000 miles
