If going synthetic, take a good hard look at hiking off road..... I've seen them come out on top in a few comparos. Master pull is also top notch and have been a club event sponsor in the past.

Heard good things about Engo as well. Also, Superwinch is offering some entry level (China made) tiger Shark winches that get good reviews. I bought a 9500 and put it on my old 40. It seemed like a quality piece. I sold the 40 before I got a chance to use it though. I got it at Northern Tool and used a coupon. I paid $325 for that one.
