The location of the stuck doesn't really look too bad, but the DSR tire was held back by a 5" diameter root that had been cut flush with the bank and at enough of an angle that the tire couldn't catch a grip. The tire dug down pretty easily as it spun, preventing any attempt at reversing to gain a new path.
Neither of the other 2 trucks could tug it out last night. We tried again this morning, once it was good and icy and cold, with both trucks together and again failed. Success happened when we lifted the DS by the slider and put the 3 logs under it. It bought us a better approach at the bank root and maybe acted as rollers as we drug until his tires hooked up.
Last night it was just a wet, muddy mess. This morning the mud was frozen and the water had iced enough to stand on. Shovels and hatchets made short work of the ice. At least it wasn't raining. We might have unstuck it last night if at least one of us had some flood lights on his roof - it was a little tight weaving the second truck between the trees even in daylight. Yes, that's right, we went out in the dark to a place we'd never been that was a bit...well, let's call it 'tightly forested and wet'...with little more than hope and perseverance to guide us. BUT, when your host asks 3 guys with LC's "You guys go out on the trails off the driveway yet?" you kinda have to go see what that's all about.
