Thanks Stan. Yeah it's 12k or nothing. Anyone have any winch suggestions? Never really dug in and researched them before.

I've read lots of good things about the harbor freight winches. We put a 12k into Ryan niles' truck and he likes it!

I have a Warn Power Plant 12K winch and a Viper Elite 12K winch and have been happy with both of them. I can tell you that I have worked the Warn like a mule and never an issue. Have not used the Viper as much but never an issue there either. Both have been used mounted on a tray into a 2" receiver.

I was reading up on the Harbor Freight winches because they are so danged inexpensive. But for $400 ($300 if you get them on sale), you really can't beat it for a 12K winch. It's probably what I'll buy for the 80 since I don't really plan on winching all that often... Like, if it gets used once or twice a year, I'll be surprised.

Kinda what I was thinking too. Just looked and the 12k Badlands is $299. If you have one of the 20% coupons I think it's well worth it.

I second Rice's reasonable but untimely suggestion! The Rhino is a beast, I gotta see what happened!

Jeremy, so you can understand my shock when I was told it was our truck that got stuck and why I quickly went to check it out. "It must be bad," and it was quite interesting.

I don't think anyone has commented how the "small stream" on the property started to go over our hood, so we had to back up. (Ryan- snorkel isn't installed yet. :(. ) yeah great fun and great memories.

Oh and Eric almost mastered starting a fire without matches, ect. We kept the piece of wood as a suvenieir. E will have to post a pic. Yeah spinning tire got quite hot!

Lol. Fire it up, fire it up!!!!!

Oh, I would like to thank those who were willing to come out and help us at short notice. And I'd like to thank Eric, John and Sara for sticking around till we were out. And for Mike and Marie for the hospitality and helping entertain the kids while we were trying to pull the truck out, that was a great help. Love our Cuiser family.

Check the fine print. They often exclude winches from the 20% off.

The reviews I have read on the Badlands winch were pretty good. Many complained that the winch cable was too stiff and that it had a tendency to bird nest if you aren't super careful. Several folks suggested spooling off the crap cable that it comes with and installing a better quality cable that is more supple and probably stronger as well. I think stacking the 20% coupon on top of a sale price is luck of the draw and probably depends on the willingness and knowledge of your cashier at check-out. Find someone who is clueless (shouldn't be that hard at HF) and you'll be in luck.

I read the same thing. That and an issue with the breakers. Might be worth removing the cable and getting some synthetic line from SEO in its place.
