Have failed clutch master cylinder on my 64 fj40. Don’t believe this to be OEM (pic) …. but don’t have the expertise to know for sure. Any help identifying the component, replacement option, or rebuild kit greatly appreciated. Thx!

If you'd spent the same amount of time typing "Clutch master cylinder FJ40 1964" into google, then you'd have your answer.

I'm happy to help people, but you have to help yourself sometimes.

Cruiser outfitters or some other vendor on here should be able to help.

Looks like the same 3 bolt pattern as my 72 has. When you take it off for repair or replace, take one bolt and use a hack saw to cut a screw slot in the head. Put that bolt in the top left position. You can use a screwdriver to put the bolt in, then a wrench to tighten it down. Comes out way easier too.

The last time I did mine - it was rotten inside I just bought a whole new unit. On ebay I got one with braded stainless steel hose for $100. It was a longer hose for like a FJ45, I just put on with a loop in the line - wasn't worth an extra $50 to get it with a shorter line.

Thanks kindly for the advice. Found mc and sc on internet. Changing both while I am into it.

Oh and almost everything gets anti seize or Loctite. I try and replace damaged bolts with stainless steel one too.

lots of stuff going on in the pic
not stock for 64,
which side of the bellhousing is the slave cylinder located?
the hose off the master is not stock

clean the inside firewall or your paint will peel off

Thanks for your reply. The mc and sc are not stock for a 64. Likely off a 71-75. I found like replacements for both and will stick with them. The truck body is near original but not the drivetrain. Thanks again!

@rmckay1021 Would love to see some pics of your ‘64. Mine is the same year…see my signature for a link to it. I’d be interested in seeing all under the hood and inside just to compare. I’ve always wondered what is stock in mine and what might have been changed over the years. Not too many of us ‘64s out there!!

@sleepycruiser, I will be glad to post pics, but my 64 is not stock. It has a full spring over and an old school SBC conversion. The sheet metal is close.

No worries. I had edited the post saying I found your 40 on the forum and saw your engine swap, but no idea which post I edited….haha. Must be in another thread.
