Do you have a depth gauge? The front rakers need filed down as the cutter tooth wears. There is a depth gauge you use along with a flat file so you do not go too deep or low on the rakers.

No I do not, I've always just tried to consistantly take a small amount off each one. Rule of thumb, what size(s) guage should I look for?

The guage depths range from .025 to .070. Soft woods vs hard wood? Or is it a chain type/horsepower issue?

Gotcha, guess it's time to do this right.;)

Thanks for the .02..

Update re the 455: The side cover (chain brake/clutch cover arrived today with the bar adjuster).

Popped a bar and chain on it and ran it on some catclaw for about 10 minutes. Guess what, no oil getting to the bar. But after sitting for 15 minutes on the bench, there is definitely oil going somewhere (it left a mess on the bench). Is there a oil line between the pump and the bar outlet?

Checked online, but an exploded view of the oiling componets would be great! (no luck so far).

Edit: After checking some of the arborist forums, looks like it could be an oil line. Guess these saws are notorious for it. I'll be tearing it down tonight.

Edit #2, Fixed it..:bounce: One note: don't go totally with advice from other forums, you get better advice here..

I have a 141 in my shop that is in for repair. I can take some pics if you want them.

Thanks, but it was a clogged oil hole in the bar. After tearing down and cleaning the pump and flushing the oil tank/hoses, I found it.Also discovered, I need to make sure I buy a bar specific to this saw (some aftermarket bars don't have this oil hole).

I would keep the 55 Rancher,it is a big bore of the old 51 which is close to 20 years old now,it is kept in the Husky line up because it was such a popular saw,we have been running these models for close to 18 years in the rental store. They had a gas cap leak problem but a o-ring solved this, the newer cap has a new seal design, they also had a update on the air filter which in now screwed in place, but the old style still stands up well.
The crankcase on the 55 is not plastic but alloy(magnesium I think),far better machine than the 455.

James..
