My Rochester carb took a crap. I either want to go to Spector and buy the EMPI/weber setup or a Troll hole set up. Does anyone have one of these and want to chime in? This is my daily driver and I'm kind of stuck borrowing a buddies car right now and I need mine back on the road.

SOR is in stock and ready to order

Troll hole I have messaged and haven't heard back from him yet but one of his post says that he might be out of stock.

1968 fj40 with a 1984 2f motor. using the 1F intake with a 2 bbl. Also it is a cable accelerator.

All help welcomed!

Thanks in advanced

Problem is I don't have the linkage set up I have cable! everywhere I have looked no one sells a complete kit!

Have you asked Mark? Marksoffroad.net

He works primarily via phone... but his phone skills are legendary.

Ask here on mud... these parts are getting hard find. Mudders will take care of you... post a wanted ad, PM Mark or Jim C... don’t give up! I went from a good running Weber back to an Aisan and would never go back!

I pulled a cable off an old Corolla in a junkyard, it was a surprisingly great fit. Had to fab a couple of brackets and modify the pedal but it’s been working for about 22 years.

What was wrong with a weber ?

P.O. had installed a Rochester carb when I bought my 40. Struggled with it for a couple of years before having the OEM carb rebuilt by JimC. I didn't have the correct linkage either and used a cable scavenged from a lawnmower for an accelerator cable. It's still working great after 20 years. Linkage isn't mandatory but a decent carburetor is on an FJ40.

Absolutely nothing was wrong with my Weber for 95% of the time (other than the terrible fuel mileage)... except when I was in 4LO within 10 feet of the apex of the hill, all tires spinning and looking for traction... then it would stumble, stutter, and stall. Changed to the Aisan (rebuilt by Jim C @FJ40Jim) and I can actually drive 250 miles on a tank of fuel and lug along on the trails in 1st gear with NO DRAMA!!!

FJ40s with F engines and 2bbl. carburetors used a cable linkage through 9/72. There was a different linkage at the carburetor only for the '73 model year. Then Toyota went with the rod linkage set-up.

ok great points on all but nobody has used trollhole uses the oem carb he just hasn't answered. I haven given up on the oem.

I have one that is rebuilt by Marlin but everything I have read says that I need the linkage to use the throttle. The little ball at the bottom of the linkage is what pulls.

City racer used to sell new Aisan non USA carbs....the carb that all the aftermarket carbs copy.
It is head and shoulders above and beyond better than webers.....and I was a 20 year weber are great guy.
Both my 40 and 60 sported them...no longer.

You should be able to use earlier Aisin parts to get back to the '72 and earlier cable linkage at your carburetor. For instance, I swapped over parts from a '74 parts carburetor to my '71 carburetor so I could use the '73 bellcrank linkage. Depending on the year of your Marlin rebuild, the parts I removed from my '71 carburetor should swap right over, giving you the cable linkage.

Here are some photos of my '71 carburetor before converting it to the '73 linkage.

This photo shows the cable from the firewall to the first bracket. Note how the bracket's attached under one of the bolts that attach the body to the base.

This photo shows a different view. You can see the linkage's vertically oriented bellcrank that accepts the button on the end of the accelerator cable, as well as the return spring.

It would only take you a few minutes to switch parts across, as long as your Marlin rebuild is compatible. Photos of your Marlin rebuild would be helpful.

And this is what it looks like after the linkage swap:

Does your Marlin rebuild have the ball arrangement on the linkage (lower middle of photo)? That's the part on the end of the primary throttle shaft that can be swapped out.
