I find the 83 more interesting because of the LX badge on the front fender apron. Advantages of the 83 and LX would make it worth more. Does the 78 have a three speed or four speed? I know the three speed is easier to work on but the four speed is a much nicer transmission.
The 83 is a 4 speed.

So I have been doing more searching and I found some really nice specimens for sale. Particularly a 1978 FJ 40 with 21000km (approx 13,000 original miles). It is green and next to it is a white 1983 40 with 100,000 km or around 66,000 miles. Both are intriguing but the ‘78 is virtually flawless. The asking price converts to $17,500. It’s out of my price range but dang!
The ‘83 is listed higher at approximately $22,600. It has power steering.

Does the 83 have heat? The green one doesn't look very green on my monitor. Assume it's a respray, non-OEM color?

My guess it does not have a heater. I see a louver in the center of the cowl for the vent. Heater models didn't have the louver after the 76 models if it had the factory heater.

The ‘78 does not have heat and had a frame off paint job using a light green common here in Saudi, the white ‘83 is factory paint . Both are nice but exceeding my budget. The search continues.

Well I pulled the trigger on a 1983 FJ43. Next is to ship it back to the U.S. A!
