I have a little propane water heater, really portable and no BS plumbing thinking @NLXTACY , your word doesn't count you don't camp :moon:

Zero experience with the DUOETTO.
My only experience is the heat exchanger style water heater that Maltec uses and it will not freeze.
Yea thats what I was reffering to the maltec unit, got lost in all the details. are you building a maltec? I cant imagine your not.

Maltec uses a 10 lit heat exchanger without electric back up on all the trucks that made it to the USA. If you move daily it works great giving you hot water at night for cooking and dishes and holds hot water till the morning.

As for Maltec Im not sure whats going to happen for me but for now I have 2 trucks at my house and barn doors for the 80 will be here in March.:)
They will be bringing 4 trucks (2 with cabins) to EXPO 2019 they can be pre purchased it you are ready to up your game. I can say travel in Maltec style is like no other and its wife approved.

Are you ok with heating up the entire tank of water rather than just on demand?

Buy a heater core and put it in the water tank, run coolant through that.

I've been using the Helton heat exchanger for a shower and it truly follows the KISS principle. Pull up to a camp spot for the night, heat up a 5 gal jerry can of water and two or three folks can take millitary shower. Toss the 12vdc pump in the jerry can as well as the shower head in order to recirc the water to heat it up to temp, turn off engine, keep recircing water. When done rinsing, toss the shower head back inside the jerry can and just keep recircing to pull all heat out of the engine.

I'll heat up water using jet boil in the morning for coffee and/or rinse water.

do the maltec still handle and crawl etc as well as an 80? in your opinion or is it better? being lighter than an 80 and barn doors are going to be serious

I really like the idea of having 4 gallons of water preheated and ready to go with a mixer for temperature regulation, it also has two heating systems (heat exchanger and 115V heating element) I already have a dual batt system and solar power with and inverter so that wont be an issue. Also going to have Shore Power hookups for some campground use. I realize it is an expensive unit, but it ticks all the boxes.

Depends on what you are doing in the end its a 200 series Land Cruiser. Wheels like LC drives like LC and living out of one is seamless. In the dunes of Tunisia it easily ruled over all of the 60, 80, 75, 79 series land cruisers, and Prados in our group. In the end if I was to drive across the world it be in a Maltec 200 not a Maltec 80.

You are going to need more than dual batteries and an inverter to provide 65+ amps of 12 volt power to heat your water. FWIW there are heat exchangers with 12 volt lower wattage elements that would be happier with the power you have available.

Not that worried about the electrical side of the system, that is what shore power it for. The heat exchanger side will be more than capable for our normal use. Its 6.8 amps not 65+.

6.8amps at 115 volts when you have shore power. Running through an inverter powered by 12 volts its 65 +amp. 750w÷12v=62.5a + 5%(min) loss 3.125a = 65.625 providing your batteries do not drop below 12v.
You are correct on the heat exchange though having used them.

Having three 100 watt solar panels at around 6 amps output each during peak sunlight is more than enough to for 20 min of water heating time. That and having two deep cell northstar batteries @ 92 amp hours each should be more than enough?
No?

Might be a bit overkill but I use a Jetboil Sol and a SeaToSummit Pocket shower. 2-4 minutes heat-up time. I have the tarp upgrade to protect the sight of others.

No?

You will be fine given the above conditions. Sounds like you may already know this but if your batteries separate you only have 46AH of usable power as you 20 mins of water heating almost used 1/2 of the available. Any heat is hardest on a vehicles electrical system.

I seriously would not stress my charging system doing that when I could just start up the rig and bring it to temp to use the heat exchange system.. Moot point!
But it will be nice on the rare occasion when we are at a campground with service!
