How can I remove this handle? I searched and read Haynes manual and I can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks!

That my friend is not factory. To remove it the heater wil need to come out and the jamb nut removed.

There should be a little tiny set screw that holds the pull knob to the shaft, loosen that and then the knob should unscrew off of the shaft..........that sounds kinda kinky but it works.

being that is a choke cable i dont think there is a set screw. it should remove from inside the heater with a nut .looks like you will have to take the heater apart good luck

early model pull for choke; if it controls something else now, maybe a hand throttle ?

No fresh air on the dash, so po rigged one? Strange place for it tho...

That fresh air vent is factory on my 1969.

Think the cable is mounted under the dash though, but I'm not sure. I haven't gotten around to working on the interior. Long way from it. So I haven't spent much time in there.

But I did go through my Heater Fan/Blower already.

Cool, thanks guys. I guess I am going to disconnect at the other end and pull it through. The action is really stiff, so I may replace the pull all together.

There was a piece of foam type material connecting the heater duct to the heater. Is this normal? I ripped it during uninstall and need to replaced.

I have a feeling the heater is pre 1972.

Yeah it's probably rusted up. Knock the rust off, lube it with white grease or grahite and slip heat shrink tube over it. The foam needs to be replaced. It prevents air leakage from the duct. When using the defroster you'll need all the fresh air you can get.

I'm not sure It seems to me that there were a couple different types of heaters available. My stock heater on my 67' looks nothing like yours. Mine has 3 knobs mounted under the dash two of them activate the heater fans and the last one is a pull knob for the circulation. My heater looks alot sleaker than your heater. I don't know why this would be...Maybe it was an option...

OK I could have started a new thread, but since we are discussing heaters, well... My 78 is 3 weeks old to me and in great shape, BUT when I turned on the heater it blew out a ton of foam. I took the whole thing apart, washed all of the foam off and cleaned and ran water thru the coil until it was clean. Put everything back and all is well. Sort of. Vent blows great. Defrost works pretty well. Heat is great at the bottom where it should be, but also blows cold air out of the top vent. Is the foam that much of a factor? I realize the coil blocks some of the airflow, but that much?

Yes
