Has anyone on here attempted to install some heated seat inserts? My Cruiser needs new front leather. I figured I might as well install some heat inserts while I have them apart. Anyone have any recommendations?

I can't offer anything super helpful, but I can share that my seats had been reupholstered in factory cloth by the PO and when he did that, he also installed some aftermarket heaters. So it definitely can be done.

Lots have done it and Added the Switches in the Center Console. Their Might even be Power in a Plug Under Console if I recall.
Did you Search the Topic?

I did mine back in 2015 when I recovered the 2 front seats. The USDM LX450 did not have factory seat heater plugs as part of the center console harness, so I made my own using factory switches.

Google - Land Cruiser Heated Seats sometimes the mud search Sux.

I also coordinated a heated seat purchase years ago and the company that I worked with was very accommodating for not just a discount but to personalize people wants (there were different options and configurations). Here is the original thread: Heated Seats - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/heated-seats.180281/page-8#post-3972122.

As for install write ups, I believe there were several posted around the same time. Google IH8MUD heated seats and you should get several posts.

Also, to update and give the TLDR version: the seat heater group buy that I coordinated was in 2007 and the company honored the pricing for almost 2 years. Being almost 15 years later (time does fly). I believe can still get the factory seat heater switches but you would have to check for price and availability.

Thanks to @Malleus for the wiring diagram to make things a little easier.

Post edited per @TomH inputs, sorry for any confusion. I was ill informed and have made changes accordingly.

Being almost 15 years later (time does fly) IMHO the best bet if you want seat heaters and want to go through a good customer service would be to contact Shane (@AATLAS1X). He sells a very nice leather kit and also seat heater kits. @mot I believe can still get the factory seat heater switches but you would have to check with him for price and availability.

I think your info is a little out of date. Shane hasn't been selling leather since he took a bunch of money from people and didn't provide products. A recent thread that popped up in chat from someone who is still mad:

I don't think Mot is selling parts anymore and isn't around much. He still pops in once in a while.

New Toyota seat heater switches can still be sourced, I just had a set arrive yesterday.

As for your group buy, seat heaters are still working in my Land Cruiser but output isn't great. I've sourced a new kit and along with the new switches will be upgrading soon. My write-up on the install is still linked in the FAQ thread.

When I bought my first 80 in '16 I took it to an upholstery shop and had them install these under new perforated leather center sections.

Aftermarket Heated Seats | Cooled Seats | Katzkin DegreeZ - https://katzkin.com/degreez/

They were $600/seat at the time, plus labor. Amazingly functional. The cooling is obviously more applicable in at Texas summer than in Oregon, but man were they nice. They put the controls in the center console. Shouldn't have sold that truck.

For my latest project I have a set of late model Jaguar sedan seats that have factory heating and venting. I'm hopeful (naive?) I can figure out the wiring necessary to get them working as designed.

I will be the first to confess my inadequacies with respect to reading and understanding electrical systems and wiring diagrams. The last thing we are doing prior to handing our December 1994 production Series 80 to the owner's grand-daughter is redo the seats. Birfields and O2 Sensors come first.

The question of electric seat heaters is on my mind. The car has had 3 electrical changes since leaving the factory: port installed security system (Southeast Toyota), fog lights and a replacement radio. The result is a whole mess of excess wire crammed into the driver's foot panel that I simply do not understand and do not wish to add to or mess with.

So, if my car has "factory" wire harness/connectors, I will figure out how to get seat heaters otherwise I will pass.

Referencing @Malleus 's diagrams above as my copy of the FSM lacks these. Here is what I have found :

- I do have a 20 AMP Rear-HTR fuse in the dash.
- Under the rear portion of the center console, there is an 8-pin and a 6-pin open connector per photo below.
- Under the carpet there is a two wire connector next to the connector for the seat controls per photo below.

Is this the harness level wiring for seat heaters such that what I have to do is install and connect switches and appropriate pads to get to heated seats? The new owners in Colorado would be over the moon with heated seats.

Yes, those are what you want to use for the seat heater connectors.

See page BE-101 in Post #8 above.

Brilliant, would I be able to find the female side of the under seat connector in that catalog of connectors I have bookmarked somewhere?

Yes. In the Wiring Harness Repair manual, section "E", the part number for the housing will be immediately adjacent to its mating connector housing, if there is one; it'll usually be one number different in the second five number string. For example, -10941 is a male, sealed, 4-pin housing that mates to -10942, female, sealed, 4-pin housing. Some connector housings do not have mates in the list; this is because the mating connector housing is on a sensor, switch or other supplier provided part, for instance the connector housing on the rear of the stereo - you can get the pigtail connector but not the chassis mounted connector.

CTRL+F the part number and you'll find them.

There are also pairs listed in section "G".

@BTLSHP Please share what you come up with on connector parts, as I am about to tackle this. I have a ‘97 and the wiring at the console to hook up to OEM switches (on order) but haven’t checked what’s under the seat yet, and a bit lost on how the heating pad wiring will mate up to OEM under seat connectors. I’ve read a ton but hard to tell which was the right solution. Thanks!

@RubyCruiser I am happy to share what I learn, please understand that relative to many on this site I am a 1 banana hack. The interior part of this refresh is gated by getting the mechanical work done. It is my dad's car being handed to my daughter and for the last 7 years he has not driven it much, but also ignored emissions issues. We are 8-days into good gas mileage and no CEL. I have the steering knuckles immediately in front of me. Then we should be clear.

As for heated seats, assuming you are starting with the Toyota switches, then the wiring is a matter of tying the leads off the bottom and back cushion together correctly and then putting a "terminal pin" on the positive lead to place in th seat connector and then finding a ground for the negative lead.

I will look later for the wiring diagrams, the terminal pins are available a Ballenger Motor Sports

This is the series of posts that covers the issue pretty well:

I plan to mount the switches in the otherwise useless coin slots in the center console which may be a trick as I currently have that area full of thinsulate scraps.

The precise wiring into the connectors is in page BE-101 of post #8 above.
