Mud makes searching so much easier! Hate how weak the lights are on the new to me LX, this thread saves the day. Wasn't sure if the sealed caps would cause heating issues with the normal LED or HID upgrade.

Ordered the HID @grinchy shared, going to try the 4300k since I have 5000k in the LC and 6000k in the daily and both tire the eyes on long drives. Saw the post for extended seals covers and got those as well just to be safe along with LED high beams and the LED parking light bulbs
Have you had time to
Figure out if you like 4300, 5000 or 6000k better?

Love the 4300! Daily with the 6k and debating on swapping those out for 4300 also

One of standard/OEM low beams on my 2011 LX570 burned out and I'd like to replace it with a Hikari bulb.

I searched for "H11" in the Hikari store on Amazon and came up with four options.

(1) $45.99: Hikari 2025 20000LM H11/H8/H9 LED Bulbs, 45W Upgraded Core-12 Chips, High Lumens Kit, 6000k Cool White, IP68 Waterproof, H16 Foglight

(2) $89.99: HIKARI 2025 Darkenex H11/H8/H9 LED Fog light, 30000LM Pure White 6000K LED Bulbs, Plug & Play IP68 Waterproof Pack of 2

(3) $99.99: HIKARI 2025 HyperStar H11/H8/H9 40000LM Wireless Fog Light Bulbs, 32W Acme-X, 6000K Cool White, IP68 Waterproof, H16 Foglight,Plug & PlayPack of 2

(4) $129.99: Hikari 2025 Future 50000LM H11/H8/H9 LED Fog Light, 65W Titanova LED, 6000K Cool White, IP68 Waterproof, H16 Foglight,Plug & PlayPack of

Question 1 = Would the 50000LM bulbs be too bright (annoying to other motorists) for low beams?
Question 2 = All four of these options say "Fog Light" in the description. Am I looking at the correct bulbs for my low beams?

The OEM low beam and the OEM fog light use the same bulb.

If you can still find them - there was a Phillips
Osram somewhat OE HID in h11. They are "true" OE 4300k but w an H11 base. After reading all these LED burnouts, I'd stick w HID.

And, If you decide to pop an uber bright H11 into your fogs just know, they are ridiculously bright, "spray" everywhere and really pooch oncoming traffic. I mean, do as you wish, but you're pretty much profiling like "that guy" running them in his/her Silverado reflector (vs projector) housing.

Best, IMO, aux lighting solution is to drop a quality 20" light bar behind the lower fascia "vents" ...triggered by hi beams (with an on/off switch) - so when you're in town (switch off) 100% OEM....hitting the boonies (switch off) and you have instant daylight...so much so that if you need to toggle to low beams (and turn the bar off) you almost can't see it's so dark ;)

I’d recommend an HID conversion as well, and to 55W.
The only real install issue is you need extended caps, and those can be challenging to source.

@LXinOBX and @grinchy, thank you for your recommendations. I have taken your advice to steer away from LEDs and ordered the standard Halogen OSRAM P/N 64211NB220 "NIGHT BREAKER 220 H11" (data sheet attached). Thanks! I looked at a few threads on HID conversion (example: LX 570 HID Headlight retrofit - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/lx-570-hid-headlight-retrofit.901364/), but that is more work than I'm interested in tackling right now. I also came across this article that bascially says its a bad idea to install HIDs lamps into a housing that was original designed for Halogen: Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply - http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html

I ordered them from Amazon from a vendor I'm not familiar with, so there is a chance that they are counterfeit. Upon receipt, I plan to run the "OSRAM Trust" product checker: The OSRAM Trust Program | OSRAM Automotive - https://www.osram.com/appsj/trust/frontend/trust.do?locale=en_US

Regarding the extended headlamp dust caps, these are proving difficult to find. The Lasfit DC1012 model is currently sold out and I didn't have much luck finding a substitute. I think I'll roll the dice to see if they fit. If not, I'll likely cut/modify the existing dust caps to extend them (3D print a dome and epoxy it on or something).

Won't need extended caps for a stock size halogen bulb. Do need extended caps for the HID conversion, to provide space for the AFS headlight moving servos as the bulbs are longer behind the fitting.

Re extender "caps" one can also "hole saw" the OE caps and then use a "stadium" cup (cut off about 1/3 way up) inserted into the hole w a little silicon...tons of room.

Have you found these to be "reliable"? And, as a follow, are they noticeably brighter ? I found in halogens that w 100w vs 55w very little noticeable change...they just burned out faster.

As I understand their operation, basically a 35bulb but overdriven by a 55w ballast...that gives me a little pause.

I tell ya, as said, you guys looking for an easy peasy "light up the night" option...a quality 20" light bar, wired correctly, is an IMMENSE game changer for a 1gen 200 LX.

My 35W HID conversion is still going strong. It's only been a couple years though. It's bright, way way way better than stock, but it's also not as bright as the lights on new models (tesla, etc). So I feel like they could be brighter and I'd still be legal.

I have spotties on the bumper for off road use. They are absolutely not going to be turned on where there is traffic or oncoming, I don't want to kill people.

Do you have a thread detailing this by any chance, or a link to a specific product? I would definitely be interested if it's a hidden install and not a big garish bar.

Edit, think I found it here.

Yep, that is probably the "proper" way to go...while "installing" mine while positioning it on the styrofoam "bed" up against the black lower louver (again this is an LX) I found it to be incredibly secure...so much so, I just ran a couple tie wraps around the bar and the grill...almost 50k miles and countless bounces on the sand, it hasn't move a bit. A dash switch "energizes" the circuit so that the bar turns on w hi beams, flick that switch off and the hi/lo work OEM style.

This is a great idea and I love how subtle it is. I have 55W HID's which fo well for daily driving, but in the desert in the evenings I could see this being a big help.

Guess I'll add it to the list...thanks for the inspo and the info!

Just a quick PSA - found a link to a current seller of the bulbs mentioned:

HCX Philips H8 to D2 D4 Rebased HID Xenon Bulbs | Pack of 2

The dust caps I sourced from Alibaba are working fine, and appear to still be available.
I'm just curious here; this link takes me to a 'Ford Mustang' product. Obviously, its Alibaba, but were these exactly what worked for you? Having looked at the Lasfit links both are an 82mm cover. Just wanting to check before I pull the plug. I just bought new lens and butyl rubber and am planning to swap those out, so want to go to HID while I am at it to get a nice clean overhaul.

Yep that’s what I ordered. Here is the receipt- no issues with fitment (screenshot below).

Btw, curious about the new lenses. Post some pics of that project when you can!

Sweet! This certainly solves all my qualms with wanting to pull the trigger. Admittedly, I am just buying some crappy lenses off of Amazon for ~$80. I am not thinking they'll be incredible quantity, but my current ones are so yellow, cracked, and fogged over. They're just toast!! I am currently debating paint/clear on some of the inner pieces since I will have the housing open. I may come back to this thread soon, as I still am a little uncertain on what HID bulbs/ballasts I need to get. Lighting is new to me.

I am no technical savant, but I think I am capable of this project. I do intend to try and document it decently well, as it seems it could be beneficial and encouraging to our community. Especially as more of these cars age with the yellow plastic! It is somewhat disappointing to see how expensive some of the upgrades are for these lights. I am hopeful to say someone could do this for under $300, all in, though I think it will come out to slightly above that. (lens, bulbs, butyl rubber, ballasts, clear coat, and maybe spray paint?)
