Well I heard from nick over at DT today. She will be ready Monday afternoon. They pulled the headers and pressed the area that was needed and made it an oval shape versus round. The ceramic didn't crack and all is good. They are fitting it it back on today and monday.

They completed the mod to the exhaust that I requested. They have a 3 inch pipe all the way to right under the rear of the rear bumper. Nick says from the rear you cannot even see the exhaust tip. So it is tucked way up there.

That should be perfect.

Obviously I will post pics when I receive it.

Lovely. Sound clip would be very generous!

now your exhaust exit sounds like it is finally in the perfect place. good work.

You won't have to smog it before some time obviously, but does this exhaust and header change the OEM emissions specs whatsoever?

There won't be any issues as I only did the shorties which leave on the cat coverter up front. Which is fine for emmissons.

Nice looking headers...of what you can see. I'm seriously looking at going that route, but I'll need to save up my pennies from the paper route, may be a couple of months, once your's have broken in, and all's good!

The diameter on the exhaust will certainly help a bit...nice big size. When you are talking to them again, please ask about the black paint option we talked about, and also why so much welding coming off the 3-1/2" tube to split? Are the bends that severe that they can't use a bender? Just wondering. I don't know the first thing about bending (except how to crimp a pc of pipe), so there may be some issue with getting it fit into a mandrel bender.

Well I consulted my brother in law who has been welding for over 30 years and he said that the welding job done on those pipes is TOP NOTCH! HE said that I would NEVER get that kind of welding done and any regular shop.

I asked why did he think that they didn't use one pipe and use a bender etc.

He said when they FIRST make the exhaust that it is much easier to use smaller sections of pipe and do it that way. If they use one pipe and make a bend wrong it is VERY hard to get it back to the original shape and correct the mistake. It makes it look very sloppy. Plus good welding makes the pipe as good as a single piece of pipe.

Did your headers come with a CARB sticker?

What is that sticker for?

Yes, CARB sticker/etching/emissions number. Just wanted to know if they went through the trouble or specified them for Off Road Use Only. Apparently, they did.

What is that sticker for?

It's a way of showing California ARB certification of the emission component. Part of the smog test is to do a visual inspection and see if anything has been altered. If you have the sticker (used to be yellow), then they will pass no questions asked. Without the sticker, it comes down to whether they notice or not.

Nice job, but I strongly recommend you keep the stock parts just in case you don't get through smog. With a new truck, I think you have 4 years before that's a problem.

DTT's rig is back on the road! Can't wait for his write-up.
He mentioned he was getting way better gas mileage than before...that's a huge plus. Don't wanna steal his thunder, so I won't mention any more.

Ok, I am home and here are my observations:

When she hits about 3000-3500 RPM she really takes off. That is also when the deeper sound happens.

When idle, she really doesn't sound much different, which is something they were going for.

Nick mentioned that in SUV's they try to keep the exhaust from getting to loud because it ends up resonating throughout the cabin, which most people, they found, that they don't like.

I usually got 10-11 mpg, freeway or city didn't matter. On the way home the gauge said I was getting between 13-14.2.
When I hit the gas and got the rpm's up to 4k-5k it dropped to about 12-12.5 ish. When I got back on a constant rpm it went back up.

Overall very nice upgrade. I will post pics of the exhaust being really tucked up behind the bumper.

Oh about the Dyno...the place I was going to go get it done at, flaked out on me. They said they were too busy. So I am going to have to do it at another time.

Ok some observation after finally doing some CITY driving.

WOW...I need to change the way I push on that gas pedal. It has one hell of a take off now and if I am making a turn and hit the 3k rpm mark and I don't let off the pedal, it will start screeching the tires during the turn.

Plus I seem to get to get to 55 and 60 on the city streets a bit faster now :)

Here is the tailpipe exit:

Here is a potential issue. If you look carefully you can see the tab from the bracket hanging down pretty darn low....I think I am going to have to cut off.

(From this angle it looks high enough but if you get even, it comes lower then the fuel tank.....therefore is going to be easily caught.)

and this is a picture from the Motley Crew concert I went to on Saturday night:

Not a very good pic!

Wow, that exhaust tubing looks massive! What did they use for the muffler? How does it sound? I wish somebody made high flow aftermarket systems for the 80 :(

Can't the bracket just be cut off below the where the washer resides? Or is that still too high?

Yes it can and that is what I am going to do.

If it looks like it will still be an issue, then maybe a small custom made skid plate about 2-3 inches wide would work. I have not gotten under there completely as to where that might mount. I will have to see and figure it out.

man, no comments on the Crew..? I bet the chicks were as hot as the pyro!!
